Up until this point, Snickers has been a little quiet on the Christmas release front. It’s not like it’s been shy and retiring as we roll through the last few months of the year (it recently brought out a new football-shaped candy), but there haven’t been any enormous announcements from the candy brand about new festive delights. Instead, it seems like Snickers is all but certain to bring out its Trees bars once more, although we’ll believe that one when they’re back in stock on supermarket shelves. And honestly? That would be enough.

But wait! What’s that? Snickers…has candy canes now? Yes. Snickers has candy canes. And people are a little baffled by the whole thing.
Snickers Candy Canes
A few days ago, @markie_devo and @jerseyfoodnfinds on Instagram announced that new Snickers Candy Canes had been spotted live, in the flesh, in Stop and Shop. These canes, which come in a 12-pack, are importantly not the Christmas Candy Cane Stocking Stuffer that the brand puts out each year, which is full of Snickers Minis. Instead, it’s an actual candy cane, in two shades of brown, with each one wrapped in plastic.
These new candy canes feel very much in Snickers’ potential “let’s quietly try this out and see if it works” wheelhouse, which we’ve seen a few times this year, most notably with the Snickers-flavored whipped topping that dropped in Spring. At least we could kind of understand the flavor of that one, though; here, we’re on slightly more uncertain footing.
And So Are Customers…
On @markie_devo’s post about these candy canes, people were slightly confused as to what these things would actually taste like. Naturally, you’d guess like Snickers – but with peppermint? Or are they going to distill the nuts, nougat, caramel, and chocolate flavors into a candy stick? Stranger things have happened, and chocolate lollipops exist. But it’s probably no surprise that everyone’s a little unsure as to whether they’ll taste any good or not. The fact they’re sold in a 12-pack, too, means that if they’re not, you’re going to have a lot left over that you have to foist on your friends and loved ones (although hear me out: Snickers cookies with these candy canes studded on top?).
If you want to give these a whirl, then get yourself down to your local Stop and Shop — or wait until they end up in other retailers, which they probably will. Or just stick to classic candy canes.
