Snickers Is Celebrating Football Season With A New Throwable Shape (Kinda)

We’ve seen no shortage of football-themed foods come at us in the last few weeks. Auntie Anne’s, Dairy Queen, Wingstop…they’re all at it with their game day deals and new flavors. And these deals might be pretty good in places, but if you ask me, they lack a certain whimsy. Designed for sharing, yes; but playful? Not really.

That’s fine – food doesn’t always need to be playful. But sometimes it’s fun. And if you like the prospect of playing a very tiny game of football with pieces of chocolate – which probably appeals to a pretty niche audience, but nonetheless! – then Snickers has the thing for you. 

Snickers Footballs

Snickers’ entry into the football food race this year is its Snickers Footballs, which are (and it likely doesn’t take a genius to figure this out) football-shaped versions of its chocolate bar. Snickers Footballs will be sold in single and share sizes; each package of the latter contains two pieces of candy, with the ovular bars weighing in at 31 grams each. 

Snickers is no stranger to morphing its bars into different shapes to suit the mood of the season. In the last couple of years, we’ve got Snickers Pumpkins and Snickers Trees, for Halloween and Christmas, respectively (the former is back this year, and we tried it just last week; the latter will probably make a reappearance in the next month or two). According to Allrecipes, Snickers Footballs will have a similar chocolate-to-filling ratio to these other novelty-shaped versions, which is to say that it will have a BETTER chocolate-to-filling ratio than standard Snickers bars. Not something to complain about, that.

It’s All In The Shape

Snickers Footballs join a growing line of football-shaped foods coming out this year, which you can sub in if you end up eating the candy bar on the field. Krispy Kreme brought back its Football Doughnuts, while Pillsbury remounted its football cookies. Naturally, none of this is anything new — quirkily-shaped foods have been around for years now — but it does fill my heart with a childish sort of glee whenever I see them, or something like them. What can I say? It works on me, even if they taste exactly the same.

As for Snickers Footballs, you’ll likely be able to find them in your local self-respecting retailer in the next couple of weeks. They may well be usurped by Snickers Trees soon, though, so get them while you can.
