How much do you love your bestie? Enough to share your candy with them? I know, it’s a bit of a low bar – if you’re not willing to do that, maybe reassess your friendship. If you are possessed by the spirit of generosity when you see your nearest and dearest, though, Sour Patch Kids has a solution. Hot on the heels of the release of Sour Patch Kids Chews and a 7-Eleven Watermelon Slurpee, the candy brand is here with another new variety for us all: Sour Katch Kids Besties.

Aww. I should call my own bestie and tell them I love them. Anyway, to the candy!

Sour Patch Kids Besties

The idea behind Sour Patch Kids Besties can be roughly summed up as “best friends stick together.” Sour Patch Kids has combined (or, rather, glued together) compatible flavors in each bag to form a chain of up to four Sour Patch Kids. Redberry & Blue Raspberry are now linked by the hand, as are Watermelon and Lime.

In its press release, Mondelēz International, which makes Sour Patch Kids, calls this new move a “fun, interactive experience,” and a “social eating adventure.” “This new format goes beyond flavor, creating a candy designed to be shared, celebrated and experienced together with your besties,” said Mondelēz International’s senior director, candy, Lauryn McDonough, in a press release. I have to say, I’m not sure how many people will be considering the interactive qualities of this new candy when they’re eating it – but added value and all that!

A Very Gen Z Affair

Like with its Sour Patch Kids Chews, Mondelēz International is really going hard on this product being aimed at its Gen Z audience. Makes sense: According to data from Visual Capitalist, Gen Z now makes up the highest proportion of the world’s population, with almost 23% of people born between 1997 and 2012. As a firm millennial, the fact that candy brands are now aiming at the youngsters who came after me is a bitter pill to swallow – but such is the passage of time, and there’s no stopping it. I say, from my rocking chair, shaking my fist at those kids to get off my lawn.

Gen Z or not, though, you can now get Sour Patch Kids Besties at major retailers across the country, where they retail at around $1.25 for a 3.18-oz bag, or $3.29 for a 7.17-oz bag. Prices, as ever, may vary from store to store.
