We Tried New Chili Lime Mango Peeps—But You’ll Only Find Them at One Store

It was only a matter of time before “swicy mango” hit the Easter aisle. While I was expecting (dare I say, looking forward to) some sort of Hot Honey Peeps being the iconic brand’s first attempt to introduce heat, I’m staring down a pack of Chili Lime Mango Peeps instead. The super-seasonal brand was nice enough to send over a pack for us to review; let’s find out whether the world is ready for fruity-spicy Peeps.

Chili Lime Mango Peeps Review

New Swicy Peeps!

Pros: Oh thank goodness, it isn’t actually spicy. There’s a subtle spice factor beneath the mango, but it’s nothing you’d call “hot”. I’m as anti-mango as it comes, but these Peeps managed to balance the mango flavor without overwhelming me as so many other products have. While the flavor palette doesn’t immediately strike you as belonging on a marshmallow, it tastes much less strange than it sounds…. which is almost a bad thing.

Cons: Call me crazy, but if the first word in the name of the flavor is chili, shouldn’t these Peeps be spicy? From my perspective, I’m glad it’s not; that said, I imagine there are plenty of people who’d be disappointed that a product with such a large chili pepper on the front is maybe a 2 on the spice chart. I also wish the lime flavor were more pronounced; there’s plenty of lime in the aroma, but very little in the actual flavor.

Where can we get Chili Lime Mango Peeps for ourselves?

Of all places, Chili Lime Mango Peeps are exclusive to the Kroger family of grocery stores. This marks the second exclusive product on the spicier side that Kroger has snatched up for their audience in recent memory; they must know something about the Kroger crowd that I don’t.

What other new Peeps are hitting shelves in time for Easter?

The Peeps scientists have been hard at work ahead of this spring season. Chili Lime Mango Peeps aren’t the only store-exclusive flavor; you’ll have to head to Target for the brand-new SUNNYD-flavored Peeps. Luckily, one of the wildest flavors launched this year is available wherever Peeps are sold: Frosted Strawberry Pop-Tarts. I’ve got those citrusy/pastry-y Peeps in my review to-do list; stay tuned to Sporked for more springtime fun.
