The best turkey hot dogs are juicy, salty, and savory. They should have a good snap and plenty of meaty flavor. They should also be healthier for you than a regular hot dog.
I tasted six different turkey dogs for this taste test. Some were convincing dupes for real hot dogs and some tasted like wet, compressed deli turkey. We’re just looking for something tasty that can stand up to toppings and fits in an average size hot dog bun. Is that too much to ask? Three companies heard our pleas and said, “We’ve got you.” These are the best turkey hot dogs you can buy at the grocery store.
- Ballpark Smoked Turkey Dogs
If you’re looking for a smoky flavor in your turkey hot dogs, grab a package of these Ballpark Smoked Turkey Dogs. I think grilling these would enhance their smokiness, although we just cooked them in the toaster oven. Plus, these were among just a few turkey hot dogs we tried that tasted like turkey instead of just random hot dog meat and actually tasted good. If you prefer your meat to taste like it was cooked outside, these Ballpark Smoked Turkey Dogs are for you.

- Applegate Turkey Dogs
Applegate’s deli meats have always been “meh” for us, so I didn’t really understand why this company was so popular. Now, I know. They are a hot dog company. Specifically, a turkey dog company. Their turkey dogs are absolutely delicious. You don’t miss pork or beef hot dogs at all when you’re chowing down on one of their turkey dogs. They’re so savory and juicy and salty. If you want a tasty turkey dog, Applegate is your best bet.

- Applegate Organic Turkey Dogs
Like the regular Applegate turkey dogs, these Applegate Organic Turkey Dogs rule. They are so juicy and perfectly balanced. They’re meaty. They cook up in no time. As you’ve gathered, they’re perfect. The organic and the regular have slightly different tastes, but it’s extremely hard to pinpoint what the difference in taste is exactly. Ultimately, it doesn’t really matter. Both are delicious and I’d happily chow down on three or four of either variety at a BBQ.
