If you asked Costco shoppers to name the best beer in the warehouse, there’s a good chance Kirkland Signature beer would come up more than once. It has earned a loyal following over the past couple of years thanks to its award-winning taste, budget-friendly price, and the kind of word-of-mouth hype that keeps shoppers coming back for another case.

Sadly, that fan-favorite status may not be enough to save it. A new report has left fans wondering if it’s time to make one last trip to the beer aisle.
Costco’s Kirkland Beer Partnership Is Coming To An End
Costco’s partnership with Oregon-based Deschutes Brewery is winding down after less than two years. The brewery recently informed distributors that production of its Kirkland Signature Helles Lager and Kirkland Signature Vintage Ale will begin slowing this month.
Deschutes hasn’t explained why the partnership is ending. The brewery’s CEO, Peter Skrbek, simply told distributors that production is winding down while expressing confidence in the company’s overall business for the rest of 2026. Neither Costco nor Deschutes has announced whether another brewery will step in to make Kirkland beer in the future―so for now, the future of the lineup is up in the air.
Fans Aren’t Taking The News Too Well
As soon as reports about the discontinuation started making the rounds, disappointed shoppers ran to Reddit to mourn the loss. Some said the Helles Lager had become their regular Costco purchase. Another fan said this is “one of the best lagers I’ve ever had. This is quite unfortunate.”
Part of what made these beers so popular was that they punched well above their price tag. The Kirkland Signature Helles Lager sold for around $13.99 for a 12-pack, making it one of Costco’s best beer bargains. But shoppers weren’t buying it just because it was inexpensive. They were buying it because it was genuinely good. In fact, the lager picked up a silver medal at the 2025 World Beer Cup before earning a bronze medal in 2026. That’s not something many private-label products can brag about.
There May Still Be Time To Stock Up
The good news is there may still be time to grab a few cases. Current inventory is expected to stay on shelves until warehouses sell through their remaining stock, with some locations potentially carrying it into September or October. Of course, every Costco warehouse is different, so availability could disappear much sooner depending on local demand. If this is one of your favorites, grab a case while you can.
