Of the business decisions that Walmart could have made, the decision to have an internal grocery delivery service is pretty high up there in terms of drawing success and revenue to the brand. I mean, you’ve got to admit, not having to go through a company like Uber Eats, DoorDash, or Instacart and actually being able to order the groceries you need directly from the company you were already going to get groceries from is the peak of convenience.

Since Walmart is already the most widespread and highest grossing grocery store in the United States, it then also makes perfect sense that they would try to collaborate with other companies through its largely successful delivery service. Early this year, Walmart announced that it would be possible to order Subway on demand through the Walmart app in addition to your typical groceries. And now they’re branching out with another company that they have already had significant collaboration with. Now it will be possible to order your morning cuppa, hot or iced, alongside your groceries — and hey, maybe even a doughnut too.

A Long-Standing Union

The Dunkin’ brand, owned by the company Inspire Foods that owns similarly popular food chains like Buffalo Wild Wings and Arby’s, has been intertwined with the Walmart name for some time now. You see, Dunkin’ already has around 150 locations within Walmart stores across the country.

But, it doesn’t seem fair to make the perk of having a Dunkin’ within the walls of a Walmart if not all of its shoppers get to reap the benefit, now does it? Shouldn’t the online shoppers getting their groceries delivered from those same Walmart locations get to have the opportunity for easy access to Dunkin’ coffee too? Well, both Walmart and Dunkin’ agree, and now your grocery delivery can come with a side of jo.

Expanding Access Will Take Time

Okay well you may have noticed that the “150 locations” part of this doesn’t really add up. There’s a lot more Walmart locations than that… and a lot more Dunkin’ locations too. The thing is that for now this is a pretty exclusive launch. Only the people with close geographic proximity to these specific 150 Walmart locations will be able to make the most of their grocery hauls in this way. But, that’s not to say that further expansion isn’t coming. In their press release Walmart said that it “plans to expand to the majority of its 10,000 locations outside of Walmart stores nationwide.”

Either way, Walmart does seem to be in the unique position in terms of accessibility to the American population and a customer base that’s already accustomed to the Walmart order systems to make this a distinctly exciting addition to its portfolio. We’re just hoping this expansion to more locations comes sooner rather than later.
