Did y’all know Topo Chico has a hard seltzer line? It was news to me too. I only found out when the good people at Topo Chico Hard emailed me to ask if I’d like to try their new Margarita lineup, one of the easiest questions in the world. A few days later, a box of Topo Chico Margaritas was on my doorstep and my job got even sillier for a weekend.
Today, we’ve got our hands on four new drinks from Topo Chico Hard. While the previous drinks released by Topo Chico Hard fall decidedly into the hard seltzer category, this new lineup is formally labeled as “Margarita flavored alcohol beverages.” I’m sure there’s a legal explanation for that phrasing. Let’s crack these open and see if Topo Chico goes hard.
Pros: This is a solid, generic canned Margarita. The lime flavor tastes fresh, which is more than I could ever hope for from a canned margarita flavored alcohol beverage.
Cons: This is going to come up for every single one of these but, as you might expect from a Topo Chico drink, this is fizzy. I’m not sure Margaritas need to be fizzy, folks. The sparkling water aftertaste takes away from the Margarita feeling as well.
Pros: This is the sweetest drink of the bunch. Pear and lime go great together; this is a solid flavor combination for a Margarita.
Cons: This still feels more like a seltzer or even a hard cider than a Margarita. There’s something about the form factor that just isn’t getting the job done.
