Trader Joe’s is really giving life to the flavored popcorn game. It makes a lot of sense if you think about it. What better blank canvas is there than a bunch of plain popcorn kernels? Those beauts were made to be drenched in seasoning for your snacking pleasure. They’ve given us French Onion Soup popcorn and Thanksgiving Stuffing popcorn, and now TJ’s is mashing up two flavors pretty much every loves for their latest release: Trader Joe’s Buffalo Ranch Popcorn.
The bag describes this as popcorn that’s been “seasoned with bold flavors.” And that’s no lie—this stuff is bold in every way. You get walloped with a bold aroma right when you break open the bag. The heavily seasoned kernels are a bright, bold orange hue. But is the flavor bold, too? We tasted the new Trader Joe’s popcorn to find out.

Pros: This is what peak popcorn performance looks like. Bright and bold flavor that doesn’t add any mess to the equation. There’s no chocolate drizzle that’ll just fall off in chunks or gloopy butter that’s going to stain your shirt. Trader Joe’s has added an even layer of seasoning to each kernel that leaves a delightful residue on your fingers that’s just begging to be licked up. The combo of buffalo and ranch seasonings is great—a little tangy and plenty creamy. If it were football season, this would be a perfect game day snack.
Cons: Buffalo fanatics may be let down a little here. Don’t get me wrong. You do get a bit of spicy buffalo sauce flavor coming through, but overall, the seasoning on the popcorn definitely skews ranchy. I’m a little Buffalo-phobic myself, so it was just the right blend for me.
