Easter can be a slightly irritating time for plant-based eaters. This time of year, new candy drops appear almost every day – and most of them have dairy or gelatin in them. That’s probably no surprise, given that this is the season of chocolate and gummy delights, but it’s still a liiiiittle bit frustrating that food companies don’t take vegan diets into account more in this specific area. It is 2026, after all: We know they can do it!

Thankfully, good ol’ Trader Joe’s has come through this year, with one new item that looks like a dupe of Peeps Decorated Marshmallow Eggs (although, slightly more accurately, it’s kinda a cross between those eggs and regular Peeps). Introducing Trader Joe’s Marshmallow Eggs, a product that’s apparently hitting stores next week. Here’s what to expect.

No Need to Be Jealous of Gelatin-Based Snacks Any More

According to @bigboxvegan, Trader Joe’s Marshmallow Eggs will have no pork gelatin in them, as well as no artificial dyes or corn syrup. Instead, they’ll instead get their color from vegetable juice, spirulina, and turmeric (you won’t taste them, guys, don’t worry. At least, we hope you won’t).

There are set to be four flavors of these peeps, and each pack will come with three lil’ eggs for your delectation. The price? $1.49. Not bad, right?

Tell Us the Truth, Though: Are They Gonna Be Any Good?

Well, look, folks, we just don’t know yet. Perhaps unsurprisingly, people are very excited about these new vegan-friendly candies – and as TJ’s has nailed plant-based-friendly marshmallows before, everyone’s predicting big things for these. “Their marshmallows are amazing, so I’m imagining that their ‘Peeps’ style treats are going to be amazing too,” said one comment on @bigboxvegan’s post. If it can replicate that success in this snack, we’ll be onto a winner.

That said, we’ve been a little bit unimpressed with some of Trader Joe’s vegan-focused options over the years. Back in 2024, we really didn’t like Trader Joe’s Vegan Pepperoni, which we found to be overly wheaty and unpleasantly rubbery. On the other hand, its Korean Beefless Bulgogi was a clear hit – and a lot can change in the food world over just a couple of years. We’re quietly optimistic about this one, but we’re reserving judgment until we can get our hands on them.

Oh, and for all of you regular marshmallow lovers out there, you’re in luck. Peeps has released three new flavors this year, including the bizarre and pleasingly wacky Chili Lime Mango, which is only available at Kroger. It’s gonna be a good year to be a marshmallow-based treat. We can already tell.
