Grab This Very Good Trader Joe’s Granola Before It’s Very Gone

“Very Berry” is cute a name, but when it comes to the new Trader Joe’s Very Berry Granola, it might be a little hyperbolic. Google tells me there are over 400 types of berries in the world and just two of them appear in this granola, so “very” seems like a stretch. But I will say, Trader Joe’s chose their berries well. Blueberries and strawberries are safe picks for granola. They’re beloved by many and offensive to few. That’s vital when you’re trying to bring a product to the masses.

I think the crowd appeal is here. This granola is beautifully sweet but not overpoweringly sugary—perfect for adding to plain greek yogurt for breakfast. There’s a pleasant textural contrast between the chewy berries and crunchy granola. Well, I should specify that the chew comes almost entirely from the blueberries, which are whole and dried (like raisins) while the strawberries are freeze dried and cut up into teeny-tiny pieces, for better or worse. All in all, I’d say this is a breakfast win.

Trader Joe’s Very Berry Granola

Pros: Just call this yogurt’s favorite granola! The only way this could get better is if they sold it as an accompaniment to a cup of good yogurt (you know, like those Chobani Flips situations). If yogurt and granola isn’t your thing, don’t worry. You can and should eat this granola on its own or doused in milk (or a milk alternative). You can get through a bag quickly.

Cons: You’ll be disappointed if you showed up for the strawberry show. They’re certainly present but, man, they are really hard to find, especially when you’re just mindlessly munching away. You’re much better off just getting a pack of freeze dried strawberries and throwing them into any ol’ granola you have around (or hey, one of the best granolas from Sporked’s taste test).
