Has it gone? Is it safe to come out? For the last year or two, Dubai chocolate has been the monster lumbering through your city, decimating everything in its path. We first talked about it in mid-May LAST YEAR (although it had been around for a minute before then), and since then, virtually every food company in the US has made versions of their products with its flavors. This summer, though, things finally feel as though they’ve slowed down. Sure, we’ve had Pinkberry launching its Pink Dubai Style build, and last month Ruby Tuesday brought out a Dubai chocolate brownie, but other than that…things have been quiet on the pistachio and chocolate front.

Walmart’s not done, though. The store’s just brought out a new Dubai-style chocolate item, and we’re wondering whether the moment might have passed.

Bettergoods Dubai Style Chocolate Spread

Yesterday, @candyhunting turned our attention to Walmart’s new Bettergoods Dubai Style Chocolate Spread, now available in its stores. By the looks of things, this spread is a little more faithful to the central tenets of Dubai chocolate than others. It actually has kataifi in it for starters, which so many companies miss out when making their “Dubai style” goodies, and it looks like it’s got a good balance of pistachios to chocolate, instead of a hint of the former. It also very much fits into the new international vibe Walmart’s going for with its Bettergoods refresh

Importantly, Walmart’s had Dubai chocolate for a while – this isn’t its first product of this nature. A few months ago, it brought out Dubai Style Pistachio Creme Milk Chocolate Truffles, again under the Bettergoods brand. Clearly, there’s not zero demand for this new spread, or for the flavors that it hosts.

But…Is Dubai Chocolate Still In?

That’s debatable. Personally, I think we’re over the crest of the hill with it. We reached peak pistachio a couple of months ago, when it felt like there was a new Dubai chocolate product coming out every single day – and we think it’s time to start looking at new trends.

That said, the combination of pistachios and chocolate isn’t going anywhere. And nor should it! It’s delicious. It’s just that I think we’ll start to see a retraction in food companies using it as the flavor of the month, quite literally. With that in mind, you might want to pick up this spread before it’s too late. It’ll set you back around $6, just FYI.
