Memberships and subscriptions are expensive. The promise that businesses and services like Netflix, Paramount+, and Costco make is that if you sign up and pay your fees, you can get as much access as you want – which seems great until you realize that your bank account is slowly draining with each passing month, thanks to said access. $12.99 here, $15.99 there. And it used to be that maybe you had one, two, maybe three of these things; now, it’s not unusual to have half a dozen running concurrently.

That’s why a recent move from Sam’s Club is welcome news as we creep ever closer to the holiday season. Now, your Sam’s Club Plus membership gets you more. A lot more.

Sam’s Club & Walmart Membership Changes

This week, Walmart (which operates Sam’s Club) announced that you can now get Walmart+ and Sam’s Club Plus membership in one bundle for $120 a year. Previously, these two memberships operated independently from one another, with Walmart+ costing $98 annually and Sam’s Club Plus costing $120 per year. If you were a member of Sam’s Club Plus already, you’ll therefore pay nothing for the additional perks of a Walmart+ membership – and if you were signed up to the former, it’s an extra $22 for all its bonuses.

And these bonuses are pretty useful. While neither membership gives you actual discounts on items, they do give you access to free delivery from both stores, cashback on eligible purchases, and members-only gas prices. You also get access to early shopping hours – and a Walmart+ membership comes with your choice of either a Peacock or a Paramount+ subscription, so if you’re already signed up to one of these independently, that could save you a fair whack each month. There are other little, slightly more quirky perks along the way, too, like discounted Burger King meals. Hey, worse things have happened.

Finally!

So far, customers have responded very positively to this change, and it may well be a game-changer for some people’s loyalty to certain other stores. “This will be serious contender for some folks to give a good thought about their Costco membership,” said one person on Reddit, amidst a sea of positive comments. Another person stated that “Walmart+ is the only subscription worth truly paying for,” before alluding to how much money they’d saved with it so far on delivery charges.

Now, naturally, if you shop at neither Walmart nor Sam’s Club, and/or you don’t pay for pricier, perk-driven memberships, then this news likely won’t be very exciting to you. But to be honest, if you’re already a Sam’s Club member, this new change gives you access to a lot more for no extra cost – and if you’re a Walmart+ member and have a standard Sam’s Club card, you’ll end up saving money here. Essentially, if the cash is already coming out of your account, this is a good move.
