We Tried Both Flavors Of The Chick-fil-A Waffle Potato Chips (And We Found A Dupe)

It’s hard to find someone, especially in the south, that doesn’t like the Chick-fil-A waffle fries. I mean, they even came out the other side of our official Sporked review as our highest rated fast food french fry. An in terms of marketability, it really does feel like the Chick-fil-A waffle fries may actually have the most potential to expand their products. Whether it’s the frozen waffle fries that we hope to see in grocery stores soon or the individually sized bags of waffle-cut potato chips that the company has already been releasing for its catering events, it does feel like there’s room to grow with this product.

Chick-fil-A must have realized that too and actualized its potential, because now we have the official Chick-fil-A Waffle Potato Chips available in shareable bags throughout grocery stores. But the intrigue doesn’t stop there. Not only are these new and innovative chips coming out in the original salted flavor, but they’re also being released in a Chick-fil-A Sauce flavor. Ultimately we’re just left with a lot of questions about these chips and knew we would have to try these out for ourselves. Let’s get into our official review, shall we?

Original Waffle Potato Chips

If you like the waffle fries at Chick-fil-A then you’ll probably really appreciate these chips. Not only do these chips have the same distinct potato flavor to them, but they are incredibly well seasoned. And they have some of that crispy yet soft texture that the fries have as well, too. 

It is important to note that these chips are not the same chips as the ones you get in Chick-fil-A catering. Those individual individually-sized chip packets have a much crunchier and more delicate texture. The waffle weave in the chips from actual Chick-fil-A locations is much finer, whereas it’s not as uniform and the pattern is larger in the grocery store variety. Ultimately, unless you are just a die-hard Chick-fil-A fan, we don’t necessarily see the attraction in getting these as opposed to your favorite bag of (much more affordable) ridged potato chips.

Chick-fil-A Sauce Waffle Potato Chips

We didn’t expect to like these Chick-fil-A Sauce Waffle Potato Chips as much as we did, and the reason that we fell in love is far from what we ever could have anticipated either. As it turns out, when Chick-fil-A sauce is used as a dry seasoning on a potato chip it tastes exactly like All Dressed Lay’s, the Canadian classic. And folks down here in the south don’t really get any of those Canadian favorites very often, but what we do have are Chick-fil-As in abundance. This was a delightful turn of events.

The same qualities that chips possess in the Original flavor hold true in this chip as well, but the flavor is exceptional. Not only does it taste like Chick-fil-A sauce, but it also tastes exactly like All Dressed chips. When Chick-fil-A Sauce is turned into chip seasoning, the two are apparently one and the same. It’s a little bit ketchup-y, it’s a little bit barbecue-y, it’s a little bit mustard-y, and it’s a whole lot of a bit satisfying. Needless to say, we finished the whole bag in one sitting.
