We Tried Crumbl’s Mallow Thin Cookie Sandwich (And Any Oreo Would Be Better)

This week, Crumbl has been shaking things up in a pretty fundamental way. Instead of the usual variety of thickness and form factor for its cookies, they went all in on cookie thins. All orders of cookies this week come as a set of two cookie thins (so it still feels like you’re getting your money’s worth). But the Mallow Thin Sandwich Cookie and the Dubai-Style Chocolate Thin Sandwich Cookie play with the “set of two” concept and forge them into one mega-treat. Two cookies stuffed with a delicious filling? Sounds incredible.

The Mallow Thin Sandwich Cookie somewhat resembles an Oreo in its colors and form. As Crumbl describes it, it takes two chocolate cookie thins and sandwiches them with a filling of a marshmallow cookies and cream mousse and chunks of gooey brownie pieces. Sounds interesting, familiar, and delicious. But, of course, we here at Sporked had to discern its deliciousness ourselves.

Is It Any Good?

Pros: I’ll be honest, it’s kind of difficult to be very positive about this cookie. But, what I can say is that the flavor of the chocolate cookie thins and the brownie pieces are very nice and classic. The cookie thins are super true to name and they have the perfect thickness for what they’re advertising. Really, they’re the perfect thickness for a mega-sized Oreo like this cookie is reminiscent of. Proportionally, it’s like a Mega-Stuf Oreo. And, unfortunately, that’s just about it for the positive things I have to say about this cookie. But I’ll throw in that the texture/fluffiness of the marshmallow mousse is nice as well since I’m feeling generous.

Cons: Well, there’s a lot more to say in regards to what this cookie did wrong. I love an Oreo, so it’s heartbreaking when something cookies and cream is strange and disappointing. For starters, the cookie was pretty soggy. Whether underbaked or losing structural integrity from contact with the filling, it starts to fall apart pretty much immediately in your hands. There are no crispy edges and the texture is one note. As for the filling, the “marshmallow” mousse tasted nothing of the sort. It didn’t even taste like cookies and cream, as they advertise being mixed into the mousse, either. The brownie bites in the filling were also so large that it not only damaged the integrity of the sandwich but overwhelmed the flavor of the mousse. All that to say, it was egregiously sweet, not balanced in texture or flavor, and overwhelmingly too much going on to be the pleasant cookie sandwich I was expecting. 

Our Final Verdict

Overall, I’d heartily recommend that if you’re venturing to Crumbl this week to see what’s up with all these thins and skip over the Mallow Thin Sandwich Cookie. For now, Crumbl hasn’t quite cracked the code on how to make this one a top-notch showing of what they can offer.
