Now, you saw that we tried all of Dunkin’s non-coffee drinks. So, of course, we have to follow that up with their coffee drinks. Again, it was a little hard to sort through the menu and figure out what counts as a regular menu item and what’s seasonal. Really what I’ve learned is that Dunkin has mostly rotational menus rather than a fixed menu. Their fixed menu is mostly just the basics with a few brand specials. That said, we have a lot of drinks to get through. Here’s every Dunkin’ coffee item, ranked best to worst.

Our Method

These were all tried as they come, with no modifications made. Obviously, they’re going to taste a little different if you add more sugar or a different milk, but I went with just a standard order to test the drink itself. This isn’t about finding the right level of sweetness because that’s different for everyone and everyone likes different flavors. Luckily, I’m okay drinking coffee straight, so this ranking wasn’t too terrible to do. I also tried most of these as the iced version just because I like my coffee cold, but for science, I did try one in both hot and cold and they were basically the same aside from temperature. So these should work out both hot and cold.

Caramel Craze Latte

Now, I’m probably a little biased on this one. But look, I really love caramel. So this is a no-brainer really. But, I didn’t let my bias show (too much). It actually is good without being overly sweet, which some caramel drinks definitely can be. And I didn’t even know this drink existed on the menu. I’m so used to seeing their specials that I had no idea this was a regular drink I could’ve been getting this whole time. That will certainly be changing.

Cold Brew with Cold Foam

I was pleasantly surprised by this. Cold brew is really hit or miss for me. So I was surprised with how much I liked theirs. I will say, obviously it was a little better with cold foam. I think this would be really fun to modify and see what flavors pair well with the coffee and cold foam. This would definitely be something I wouldn’t mind getting in the future either.

Caramel Creme Coffee Chiller

I don’t know if this one is so high just because I had it when it was hot as heck out or if it’s really that good. But I really enjoyed this one as well. I actually kind of liked this more than Starbucks’ Frappuccinos.

Triple Mocha Coffee Chiller

Okay, okay. No surprise that this came in fourth after what drink was third. But look, it was hot and this was a delightful morning treat. This one was chocolatey bliss. It was cool and refreshing, but still had a delightful coffee kick.

Brown Sugar Shakin’ Espresso

This was a slam dunk for me. This is my go-to order at Starbucks. Now, Dunkin’s wasn’t quite as good. But it still held up. My drink was the slightest bit bitter, but I’ve had plenty of bitter ones from Starbucks, too. It just sort of comes with the territory of quick service places and espresso.

Dunkalatte

This was a surprise. Mostly because I didn’t really know what the Dunkalatte was. It’s just a latte made with coffee milk. It was actually really good. I expected perhaps a bit too strong of a coffee flavor, but it was very pleasant.

Cocoa Mocha Latte

Really what I’ve learned is that the best drinks have flavors. Or I’m just really into flavors. Because their plain coffee wasn’t bad, the flavored stuff was just better. This was another chocolatey delight.

Macchiato

A classic. It was done very well. It wasn’t mind blowing, but it wasn’t the worst macchiato I’ve ever had.

Americano

Now, I may have gotten lucky. But the Americano I got was particularly good. I typically get a little flavor in my Americanos, but this one was just plain for the sake of the taste test and it still held up. Americanos aren’t for everyone as they’re just espresso and water. But when done well, they’re really good.

Cappuccino

It was a pretty standard capp. Nothing fancy.

Coffee Chiller

The chiller was definitely better flavored. This was basically just a coffee slushy. It wasn’t bad. But I definitely preferred the caramel or mocha.

Nitro Cold Brew with Cold Foam

The nitro was a little stronger than I prefer. It wasn’t bad as the cold foam helped temper it. But it was edging on just a bit too bitter for me.

Espresso

I regularly drink espresso shots. (If you’ve never done them the proper way with a moka pot and whipping in some sugar, you should try it. Life changing. I never knew espresso could be so good.) With that in mind, this was, of course, a little disappointing. It wasn’t terrible. But it was definitely starting to edge into bitter. Again, a consequence of quick service coffee chains.

Latte

Again, just a standard latte. These really shine when flavors are added. But for the base, they’re solid and you can go a lot of directions with flavors and combos.

Shakin’ Espresso

Just like the latte, this really benefits from the flavors. So the base is just okay. It definitely needs some improvements.

Cold Brew

It was average. I preferred it with the cold foam though. And some flavor would really make this better.

Coffee

It was coffee. Not great. Not terrible. Like, I could definitely make better coffee at home or get some better from a local shop. But for a quick grab, solid.

Nitro Cold Brew

This one edged on just a little too bitter. And that’s coming from someone who drinks Americanos for fun. It wasn’t terrible plain. But it was definitely better with cold foam.

Final Verdict

Overall, Dunkin’s regular coffee menu is pretty solid. Their bases are solid, which is what you need when they’re constantly changing the flavors. A good base goes a long way and Dunkin’ seems to have nailed it pretty well for quick service coffee.
