We’ve tried to resist it for so long, but everything in the world just seems to be screaming fall… and we’re giving in. It’s probably just because our FOMO was too much, but we’ve been dashing our coffees with cinnamon and watching all the movies to get our autumn feels. One such movie we’ve had on repeat (as we do every autumn) is Practical Magic. And with its sequel coming out today, it feels quite fitting.

What we weren’t expecting was for our favorite prebiotic soda company Olipop to be releasing a special fall flavor today too in collaboration with one of Practical Magic 2’s lead actors. Maisie Williams, the former Game of Thrones actor, plays Sandra Bullock’s character’s daughter in the film and is the face of this Olipop campaign. This new flavor is extra magical and is supposed to taste like a caramel apple. For a fall flavor that sounds as delicious as Caramel Apple, you simply have to be skeptical because there is a lot that could go wrong, too. We tried it out for ourselves so that we could let you all know more about the successes and pitfalls of this new flavor. Here’s what we think.
Our Official Sporked Review
Pros — The best part about this soda (by far) is the thematic dedication to not only the flavor itself, but the overall season as well. The can is designed in such a way that feels more interactive and intriguing than the rest of the Olipop flavors. It’s something we’re hoping to see more of from the brand through new product releases.
Like most Olipop products the carbonation is very pleasant, too. I know this isn’t something that a lot of people would consider, but the fizz element of this drink is actually very pleasant. It doesn’t go straight up your nose because of its aggressive effervescence , but it still has a lovely sparkle.
Cons — There’s a lot more negatives than there are positives for this drink, unfortunately. For starters, the caramel flavor is so overwhelming and artificial in flavor. It’s not only reminiscent of the most cloyingly sweet, artificial butterscotch candy flavor, but it completely overwhelms any of the tart apple flavor that you’re supposed to get in each sip.
There’s something about the flavor of this, drink too, that really accentuates the Stevia. The aftertaste was so unpleasant we needed to chase it with something neutral immediately after taking a sip. Unfortunately, we won’t be experiencing all of the seasonal fun with this drink.
