Has anyone checked on Gushers recently? While we’ve been jumping to buy new fruit treats like Shaq-a-licious Gummies and Sour Strips, Gushers has just been…there. Sitting on the shelf next to Fruit by the Foot, waiting for us to remember they’ve been there for us the whole time. Well, we must have ignored them too long because they’re going out and getting brand deals for our attention. The nice people at General Mills sent over a box of the new Gusher flavor based on Netflix’s Wednesday. Let’s find out whether Blueberry Grape Despair lives up to the name.
Pros: Man, I haven’t had a Gusher in so long that I forgot they gush. That first bite, I was genuinely surprised at the burst of juice. The flavor is solidly blueberry and grape, balanced enough that some of my fellow taste testers who didn’t read the packaging were able to guess one fruit or the other.
Cons: There’s something weird about a pack of Gushers that’s entirely uniform. Where’s the rainbow? And I’m no Wednesday expert, but shouldn’t this be…weirder? Blueberry and grape are pretty pedestrian for a family as weird as the Addams’. A friend of mine was confused why this flavor wasn’t sour, which would also add to the whole “pain/despair/etc.” vibe they’re going for. A Sour Blackberry Gusher feels way more fitting for Wednesday.

Is Wednesday the new Stranger Things?
I have a feeling Netflix is looking at Wednesday as the next big moneymaker in the field of food and drink collaborations. While Stranger Things is getting one last big push (including collaborations with Gatorade, Chips Ahoy, and Doritos to name a few) alongside the series finale, Wednesday is slowly expanding into areas like cake mix, Cheetos, cereals, and now Gushers. Mark my words: in a few more years/seasons, Wednesday Addams will be everywhere in the grocery store.
Which Netflix project needs a Gushers collab next?
