Y’all, Gatorade has been up to ALL kinds of things this year. Between mashups and new exclusives, I’m really glad that our own Griffin Parker is handling reviewing them because I simply cannot keep up! And wait, there’s more! Thanks to Super Snackfluencer Team Supernova’s trusty sources, we now have information on not one, not two, but THREE new Gatorade flavors hitting shelves soon and they all may have you feeling a little bit nostalgic. Here’s what’s in store for Gatorade.
Shirley Temple Gatorade
First up, a new Gatorade flavor based on a classic mocktail: Shirley Temple Gatorade! Shirley Temples typically feature lemon-lime soda or ginger ale, a splash of grenadine, and a maraschino cherry garnish. I will be very curious to see how this translates into a flavor of Gatorade—perhaps it will use their classic lemon-lime flavor as a base and add in a grenadine and cherry flavor?
Sources aren’t sure how soon or when we will see this flavor just yet—though there is a rumour on the street that it may be exclusive to a certain chain, and there may be a clue for us hiding on the label of the bottle itself.
Shirley Temple Gatorade is labeled with the banner “Paige’s Favorite Flavor” and features a photo of Dallas Wings basketball player Paige Bueckers. If I had to take an educated guess, Shirley Temple Gatorade will either be exclusive to a chain that is prominent in Paige’s hometown area (Minnesota), the area she went to college (Uconn in Connecticut), or where she currently plays (Texas). No matter how this one shapes up, after trying the 7-Up Shirley Temple, I am very curious to see if Gatorade can pull off the same level of execution.
Stranger Things Gatorade
This fall, Gatorade is dropping a tie-in with the Netflix Original Series, Stranger Things, featuring two different flavors both labeled as “Citrus Cooler.” Both labels appropriately feature a throwback Gatorade logo from the ‘80s. According to my research, there was a yellow Citrus Cooler that was first introduced in the late ‘80s, but seems to have dropped off in the last decade or so—until now! This appears to be a re-release of that retro Gatorade! According to the Gatorade Wiki it is described as being a combination of orange and tangerine.
Joining the fan favorite Citrus Cooler is ANOTHER Gatorade labeled Citrus Cooler that will take us to the Upside Down. The Gatorade logo is quite literally flipped upside down on this dark purple version of the flavor. While we aren’t sure how the flavor will differ from the yellow Citrus Cooler, I’ve got to respect the decision to flip the logo upside down. Most brands are not willing to go the extra mile to do something wildly different with their logo for a tie-in like this.
One can assume that both of these flavors will be releasing around the same time as the final season of Stranger Things. Word on the street is that there will be a merchandise drop for this tie-in as well. Sign me up!
