I have a complicated relationship with candy canes. They look great. They make everything feel Christmassy. I will happily hang them on a tree and stick them in stockings.

Do I ever actually want to eat one? Not particularly. Welch’s may have found a loophole.
This year, the brand is selling a giant candy cane-shaped tube filled with Mixed Fruit Fruit Snacks. So, you still get the red-and-white candy cane sticking out of the top of your stocking, but nobody feels compelled to eat six inches of peppermint afterward.
This is progress.
The new Cane Filled Tube costs $2 and will be available at Walmart stores nationwide starting in November.
Welch’s Put Fruit Snacks In A Giant Candy Cane
There’s no special Christmas flavor involved here. Welch’s hasn’t attempted gingerbread fruit snacks or made a questionable eggnog gummy. It’s just the regular Mixed Fruit variety inside a very festive plastic tube.
I’m very okay with that.
The cane itself is red and white with a clear section through the middle, which means the fruit snacks are also part of the decoration. It’s like those clear Christmas ornaments people fill with candy, except considerably less Pinterest.
And for $2, I can see these ending up in a lot of stockings.
They’re also limited-edition and exclusive to Walmart, so don’t go searching Target for a giant plastic cane full of fruit snacks. Target does, however, get some of Welch’s other Christmas offerings. There are quite a few of them.
Welch’s Is Also Bringing Back Its Christmas Fruit Snacks
Welch’s Mixed Fruit Holiday Edition is returning in November, with 26-count boxes available at Walmart, ALDI, and Target starting at $6.
This time, the fruit snacks actually do get festive. The usual shapes have been swapped for Christmas trees, ornaments, Santas, snowflakes, and snowmen. The boxes come in Elf, Reindeer, or Santa designs, and there’s a matching ornament on the back that you can cut out and hang on your tree.
So Welch’s has snacks and decorations covered. Although I guess that depends on your aesthetic preferences for the holiday season.
Either way, between the Christmas-shaped fruit snacks, three different boxes, and a $2 plastic candy cane full of the things, Welch’s has gone pretty hard on Christmas this year.
And I still think the cane is the best idea. You get the candy cane aesthetic. You get fruit snacks. And most importantly, you don’t end up with a half-eaten peppermint stick welded to its wrapper. Merry Christmas indeed.
