Starbucks already has pumpkin spice covered, but October could use something a little darker. A Black Cat Frappuccino is rumored to be coming to Starbucks in the U.S. this October and the internet is already very hyped. The drink has been popping up in social media posts and conversations among Starbucks fans and baristas, with some clues pointing toward a limited-time Halloween release.

There’s one small problem: Starbucks hasn’t actually announced it. So, for now, the Black Cat Frappuccino remains a rumor.

Starbucks Japan Got It First

The first thing that makes this rumor worth watching is that the Black Cat Frappuccino isn’t completely fictional. Starbucks Japan released a Halloween Frappuccino in October 2025 and it was made with açaí, raspberry, cassis, and blackberry flavors, along with dark chocolate toppings. The finishing touch was a pair of chocolate cat ears that made the whole thing look like a tiny black cat sitting on top of the cup.

The same Black Cat Frappuccino rumor started making the rounds in the U.S. around October last year.

Now the Black Cat rumor has returned. Food blogger @markie_devo has been sharing information about Starbucks’ upcoming fall and Halloween offerings, including a rumored Black Cat Frappuccino for the U.S. Pirates & Princesses also reported on the rumor, saying the information was from a Starbucks employee.

Reddit Starbucks Baristas Are Saying It Could Be True

Things are getting even more interesting over on Reddit. A discussion in the Starbucks baristas subreddit recently focused on leaked-looking images of upcoming fall products, including a mysterious black drink. Naturally, people started trying to figure out whether it was real, fake, or possibly AI-generated.

A Reddit user said they got an unofficial confirmation on the Black Cat Frappuccino in their last call. Another comment said “Can confirm it’s the Black Cat.” Of course, anonymous Reddit comments aren’t exactly the same thing as an official Starbucks announcement. But as they say, “there’s no smoke without fire.”

Could Be Coming In October

Right now, there’s no official confirmation from Starbucks. Even when the coffee chain quietly added to its fall menu, there was no mention of the Black Cat Frappuccino.

But the rumor has a few things going for it. Starbucks Japan already released the Black Cat drink back in October 2025. The U.S. rumor appeared around the same time last year and has now returned for 2026. There are also social media posts and a Reddit discussion involving Starbucks baristas that have kept the speculation going. So maybe we’ll see the drink this year after all.
