All 6 Werther’s Fall Flavors, Reviewed

Remember Werther’s Original? Those hard little caramels in crinkly wrappers are the stereotypical “old person” candy. But have you had one lately? They rock. Seriously, it’s creamy, salty, indulgent-ass hard candy. And Werther’s isn’t just resting on their original caramel laurels. Every year, they put out Werther’s fall flavors. This year is no different, and there’s a new addition: Wether’s Caramel Apple Hard Candies.

I surrounded myself with all six bags of Werther’s Original fall flavors and tasted each one. I slurped and sucked and loudly unwrapped each one, because that’s a true Werther’s experience. Here are the six Werther’s fall flavors (including Werther’s new candy), reviewed.

I thought these might be way too sweet or way too sour. But, my god, I loved them. Seriously, you gotta get these.

Pros: Let’s start with the appearance of the new Werther’s Original Caramel Apple Hard Candies. Each candy is a beautiful swirl of tan and green. It’s quite elegant. But it’s nothing compared to the flavor, which has just the right amount of sour apple (not too much at all). That tart apple complements the classic, buttery saltiness of the hard caramel. Yummy. Yummy. Yummy. It is such a perfect little desk candy. Honestly, it’s a better, more grownup version of those caramel apple pops you had growing up.

Cons: Absolutely no notes. I can’t even pretend to have an issue with these Caramel Apple Werther’s.

Werther’s Original Caramel Apple Soft Caramels

Caramel Apple Soft Candy

After swooning over the hard candy Caramel Apple Werther’s, I thought the soft version would be a slam dunk. I was mistaken.

Pros: If, for some reason, you don’t want the bright zing of apple, but instead prefer a more subtle, cooked apple flavor, then allow me to introduce you to Werther’s Caramel Apple Soft Caramels. Unlike their hard cousin, this Werther’s Caramel Apple candy is quite subtle in its apple flavor.

Cons: I really just wanted these to taste like a soft version of the hard Werther’s Original Caramel Apple candies. While they’re not bad at all, they simply pale in comparison. And they have a bit of a burnt flavor. I didn’t dislike it, but I don’t think it belongs in this particular candy.

Werther’s Original Maple Creme Soft Caramels

Maple Creme Soft Candy

Take one of those old-timey maple leaf candies, puree and whip it into a creme, and jam it into a soft cylinder of caramel. You’ve got yourself Werther’s Maple Creme Caramels.

Pros: The flavor of the maple creme is super duper pure. It really does taste like the maple candy you find at little roadside stands in Vermont. It’s toasty and sugary and rich. And that flavor lingers on your tongue.

Cons: Personally, I’m not a fan of the creme in soft caramel thing. But I recognize that’s my own issue. Still, the soft caramel giving way to an even softer creme is just texturally unpleasant. If you feel similar, steer clear of this Werther’s.

Werther’s Original Cinnamon Creme Soft Caramels

Cinnamon Creme Soft

Cinnamon is a tough flavor. While it’s undeniably autumnal, it can easily become astringent if you use too much of it. Or it can taste like a candle. Sadly, this Werther’s falls victim to such a fate.

Pros: The creme is very, very cinnamony. If you cannot get enough cinnamon and wish you could eat a cinnamon broom, then you should grab a bag of these ASAP.

Cons: As I intimated above, this tastes like a candle. The cinnamon creme is just way too cinnamony and it becomes oddly bitter. Plus, it’s gritty. Out of all the Werther’s fall flavors, this was my least favorite.

Werther’s Original Pumpkin Spice Soft Caramels

If you ask us, pumpkin spice has gotten played out. That’s not a new or original opinion at this point. But these Pumpkin Spice Werther’s Soft Caramels convinced me that there’s still some room for pumpkin spice products in my life.

Pros: These little caramels actually taste like pumpkin—not just baking spices! And pumpkin plus caramel equals one delicious candy. Each soft chew is creamy and salty and gourd-y and toasty. It all melds together in your mouth to taste like a chewable pumpkin spice latte.

Cons: If you truly do not like pumpkin spice, then, of course, these are not for you. And, personally, I wish they made a hard candy version of a Pumpkin Spice Werther’s. The soft caramels are just way too much of a danger to my fillings.

Werther’s Original Caramel Apple Filled Hard Candies

Caramel Apple Filled

Werther’s Original Caramel Apple Filled Hard Candies

Think of these Caramel Apple Werther’s as the fall versions of those strawberry hard candies you used to find in little crystal candy dishes at distant relatives’ houses.

Pros: The hard caramel shell is classic Werther’s. It’s salty, buttery, and sweet. It’s thick enough that you’ll be sucking on it for a while before you organically reach the sticky apple goo in the middle, but it’s also not so thick that you can’t just bite it if you really want instant gratification. The goo in the middle isn’t too liquidy. And it has a vibrant apple flavor.

Cons: As you may have guessed, this isn’t the Werther’s fall candy for me. I don’t love the contrasting textures. I don’t like my candies to be filled with goo. If you do, great. I’ve got a bag of goo-filled caramels for ya.

  • The Cookie Butter Cream is the best, then cinnamon cream.

  • where did you find the bags of Werthers from. You didn’t mention were you can pick them up.

  • You are COMPLETELY WRONG when it comes to the MAPLE CREME! The ONLY CON is that it is a seasonal flavor. I discovered them last fall/2023. I became IMMEDIATELY OBSESSED! And they disappeared on the shelves. So obviously, many others agreed with me! However, please note, when Werther’s first came out with the vanilla creme soft caramels, years ago, I DID NOT like them at all! Which at that time truly baffled me, because I REALLY LIKE all things vanilla creme & caramel.

  • I have to disagree! The Cinnamon Creme soft caramels are the BEST flavor of them all.
