Did y’all know Werther’s Original is still hard at work making new flavors? You’d think they could rest on their laurels after cornering the market with their perfect caramels, but they launch new flavors multiple times a year. Werther’s was nice enough to send over both of this year’s new Holiday Caramels; let’s find out which one reigns supreme as a super-sticky stocking stuffer.
- Werther’s Original Gingerbread Soft Caramel
-
Pros: This tastes so much like a classic Werther’s soft caramel, it might as well be a regular one! Werther’s makes great caramel; it’s hard to complain about eating one, no matter the flavor…
Cons: …but I’ll find a way! Call me crazy, but most of the significance of gingerbread is in the texture. Whether it’s a soft-baked cookie or a super crisp one, the breadiness is integral to actually getting gingerbread across as a concept. This flavor didn’t scream gingerbread to me because the caramel texture is so disparate from every other gingerbread product I’ve ever had.

- Werther’s Original Cookie Butter Creme
-
Pros: These Cookie Butter Creme caramels feature a soft creme swirl built into the candy’s center—and it hit me like a truck. Replacing half the mass of the extra-chewy caramel with a supersoft creme makes for such a pleasant experience. Cookie butter is one of my favorite up-and-coming holiday flavors, so I’m totally unsurprised this is such a revelation.
Cons: I know there’s a breaking point with the average American jaw size, but I would love for these to be bigger. Let me confront my own hubris with a golf ball-sized creme-filled caramel.

Where can I find Werther’s Original Holiday Caramels?
You’ll be able to find these new Werther’s wherever seasonal candies are sold. I’ve already seen these at Walmart alongside the last of their Harvest Caramels stock— don’t skip the Maple Creme Caramels. I’m sure these will also be sold at stores like Target and Kroger; keep your eyes out in the seasonal aisle.
