You don’t have to celebrate Christmas to enjoy Trader Joe’s seasonal items featuring flavors like peppermint, gingerbread, and the stress of impending visits from relatives. No matter if you lean fully into the holiday palate, protest it altogether, or fall somewhere in the middle, there’s a new Trader Joe’s product to tickle your fancy. Here are the six we’re most excited about scoring this December.
- Peppermint Brookie
-
The classic brookie may be a brownie and chocolate chip cookie hybrid, but this holiday spin on the original benches the chocolate chip and swaps in peppermint-flavored sugar cookie dough speckled with white peppermint chips. The pre-sliced rectangular cookies can be found in the bakery section—just waiting for you to buy them and pass them off as homemade at your next cookie swap.
- Mini Filet Mignon En Croute
-
We often feel fancy but lazy. We’re ambitious enough to host, but disorganized enough to fail to pull together the food. Luckily, we can just grab a box of these frozen beef Wellington bites. The newest addition to the all-star lineup of Trader Joe’s frozen appetizers, these bites are made with beef tenderloin coated with mushroom duxelles and wrapped in puff pastry. And they cost just under $10. Plus, there’s no thawing needed. They cook right from the freezer so you can use all of your energy to flip your hair and accept comments about “how delicious these are,” and “how nice the place looks, actually,” and “umm, didn’t you say Tom Hanks was going to be here?”
- Spicy Cheddar Cheese Jalapeno Biscuit Bites
-
The holiday season sees a lot of beige food, but beige doesn’t have to be bland! If you’re looking to mix up the basket of bread rolls on the table, consider subbing in this option. They’re full of rich cheddar and sweet and spicy candied jalapeno suspended in a biscuit-y inside. Available in the freezer section, you can cook them in the oven or even in the air fryer. They’re great for adding a little zip to your dinner and equally good for snacking on while vegging out and avoiding holiday shopping. We love a multitasker.
- Panettone Chocolate Gelato Style Frozen Dessert
-
Panettone is a sweet Italian bread, so why not double down and put it in a sweet Italian gelato? That was a rhetorical question, obviously we don’t want to hear why you wouldn’t do that. We’ve already fallen in love with the dessert and all of its components, from its panettone-flavored base to the chocolate swirls, to the pieces of bread and candied citrus peel mixed in. Wait, is it too soon to say it’s love? That was another rhetorical question! Get off of our case and let us enjoy this by the shovel.
- Break Apart Reindeer
-
We like this seasonal Trader Joe’s product for a few reasons: Firstly, it’s chocolate. Secondly, it’s filled with red gummy candy. Thirdly, we chuckle when we imagine that “break apart reindeer” means we have to break up a reindeer fight. What tensions have been brewing on that harness? Is Rudolph getting a little big for his breeches? Lastly, we love thinking of kids being forced to break open the deer and harvest the insides. Merry Christmas!
- Garlic Herb Butter Mussels
-
Hands up if you like mussels but hate preparing them! Hands up if you like mussels but don’t even know what preparing them entails! We’re with ya, so we’re really excited to have the option to bypass all of that hard work and get straight to the good stuff. Each box has a dozen fully-cooked frozen mussels on the half shell that have been pre-coated with a flavorful sauce of butter, breadcrumbs, and aromatics that only take a few minutes to warm through. Pop them in the oven while you toast some crusty bread to soak up the sauce, or throw them in the microwave if you want to passive aggressively bring a dish to the office potluck while ruining the break room.
