For some of us, temperatures are changing. For most of us the days are getting shorter (and yet also somehow busier). For those of us lucky enough to shop Lidl, with its whimsical array of baked goods and, oh yes, that weekly rotation of culinary themes, a bunch of ingredients are also changing. In fact, starting October 7th, it’s Greek Week at Lidl―so here are a handful of new products, fall deals, and a bit of bakery fun to add to your Lidl grocery list.

Eridanous Frozen Gyro Sandwich Kit ― $7.99
Eridanous is Lidl’s in-store private label Greek and Mediterranean foods brand, so nothing Eridanous is “new” (unless, of course, it’s a new product). That said, what’s new here is the nearly five dollar drop in savings. The sandwich kit (which should be used within seven days) is actually enough to make five complete gyros. Unlike the gyro on the box, the kit doesn’t include fresh ingredients like tomatoes. You will get sliced gyro meat, though, plus five pitas and (hopefully) enough tzatziki sauce for all.
Lidl Preferred Selection Frozen Maryland-Style Crab Cakes ― $5.99
It’s not just Greek Week. It’s also National Seafood Month. So this week, you won’t just see discounted gyros, you’ll also see more than a few discounted and otherwise highlighted seafood products. Their Preferred Selection brand Maryland-style crab cakes are normally eight dollars, but they’ve been discounted (and will likely remain discounted for the entire month). Granted, it’s only two crab cakes, but they’re hand made with lump crab meat―maybe a nice affordable appetizer for a steak night, or date night, or both.
Sweet Potato Bread ― $3.99
There’s also a bit of savings on this seasonal, and maybe semi unsexy sounding, bread, but actually what’s more exciting here is the sweet potato flavor itself. And if you’re worried about a heavy or clunky bread―it’s hard to bake tubers and vegetables into delicious airy chewiness, yes―don’t be. After all, Lidl is widely praised for its baked goods (and we mean “widely,” as in Lidl in Europe and Lidl here in the good ol’ USA), meaning this subtle, homey, hearty and yet still tender sweet potato bread is very likely to be delicious and well-made. It’s just the kind of thing you’d want popping out of a toaster oven on a cold October morning.
Applewood Smoked Gouda Cheese by Lidl ― $4.05
It’s European, so Lidl’s gonna do stuff like bread and cheese very well, or at least probably more shockingly competently than a lot of American grocery stores. (It’s not an anti-America thing―Europe loves its bread and cheese so much and their grocery stores got the memo.) Smoked Gouda cheese is a thing of beauty on its own, but when its applewood smoked like this, you get a hint of that sweet round flavor in the woodiness that compliments Gouda’s plucky richness perfectly. Also, four bucks for a reliably delicious cheese is a steal these chilly days. Grab it.
Litehouse Caramel Dip ― $3.99
We won’t even try to justify buying this because of the price, or even with the fact that it is apple season, so any responsible household should be outfitted with at least one tub of dipping caramel. To be honest, it just looks really good. There is also the fact that we do seem to collectively crave caramel a bit more this time of year. Whether you’re using the dip for apples or not, it’s an easy, if sticky, check mark on the grocery list.
