Maybe you haven’t thought much about Lunchables since middle school, but Lunchables is still thinking about you. And the company is still cranking out kid-friendly charcuterie trays as well as new Lunchables innovations. Last year, they tried their hand at physically hot food with microwavable grilled cheese sandwiches. But this year they’re getting into spicy hot food with the new Lunchables Spicy Nachos.

Rated at a medium on the Heat-O-Meter on the packaging, this new version of the classic Lunchables Nachos comes with cheese dip and salsa, same as the not-spicy nachos. The difference is the chips, which are chili lime flavored. That’s what brings that medium heat. But are they any good? Read on for the full review.

New Lunchables Flavor!

Lunchables Spicy Nachos

TL;DR if you are at all curious about these new Lunchables and can handle a smidgen of heat, you’ve gotta try these.

Pros: It’s all very, very good. The chips are crunchy and tangy and actually spicy. They taste a bit like Lunchables’ take on Takis or their version of a Flamin’ Hot seasoning. You get that artificial-but-oh-so-good lime flavor and then real heat that builds as you eat. The cheese dip is creamy and cooling. The salsa is sweet—but that actually works, here. Each element on its own is okay. But together? Wow, what a taste of nostalgia—but spicy. It was hard to stop myself from finishing the tray. Luckily, the rest of the Sporked team liked them so much I didn’t have a chance.

Cons: If you’re a young child, first of all, congrats on having great taste in your website selection, but secondly, these might be too spicy for you. There are mini heat-seekers out there, for sure. But, from my experience, they are few and far between. A lot of the kids I’ve met have referred to bubbly water as “spicy.” They wouldn’t be able to handle these new Lunchables. That goes for you “mild-means-zero-heat” adults, too. Spicy Nachos Lunchables are legit spicy. Approach with caution.

Justine Sterling

Hi! I’m the editor-in-chief of Sporked. I will never turn down a fresh-shucked oyster but I’ll also leap at whatever new product Reese’s releases and I love a Tostitos Hint of Lime, even if there is no actual lime in the ingredients. Why you should trust me: I have been writing about food and beverages for well over a decade and am an avid at-home cook and snacker. I began my career writing about fine dining and recipes, moved into cocktails and spirits, and now I talk about groceries. If you can eat it or drink it, I’ve probably written about it. What I buy every week: Trader Joe’s dried okra. Appleton Farms prosciutto from Aldi. Some sort of Trader Joe’s cheese (I’m into the aged gouda at the moment). Frozen waffles (usually the Eggo Cinnamon Toast Minis). Spindrift water (loving the Cosmopolitan right now). Favorite ranking: Smoked salmon. Imagine me as Scrooge McDuck but instead of coins I’m diving into a vault of slippery smoked salmon slices. Pure joy. I also found some real steals in that taste test! Least favorite ranking: Canned oysters. I had such high hopes for this but it quickly became a chore. The kitchen smelled like an uncleaned aquarium.
