We don’t often cover the new “sprinkles” beat. But when two iconic brands suddenly enter the sprinkles sphere and upend the way we think about sweet little bars of sugar, we make an exception. Here’s the deal: Jif and Smuckers are making sprinkles now. Yeah. Big deal.

What are these new Jif and Smuckers sprinkles?

First spotted by @foodiewiththebeasts, these four new sprinkles flavors include Jif Peanut Butter Sprinkles (peanut butter sprinkles with what look like peanut butter chips), Jif Peanut Butter & Chocolate Sprinkles (chocolate and peanut butter sprinkles with peanut butter and chocolate chips), Smucker’s Strawberry Sprinkles (red and white sprinkles), and Smucker’s Grape Sprinkles (purple and white sprinkles). Adorably, they’re all sold in jars that look like peanut butter jars and jam jars.

Where are they available?

These babies are Walmart exclusives—and they’re reportedly already on shelves. And we can confirm that Instacart is showing listings for all four flavors (peanut butter, peanut butter and chocolate, grape, strawberry). In our area, you can find them for $3.64 a jar.

What are they for?

I guess whatever you want them for? First thought, obviously, is to butter some bread or toast and sprinkle on a combo. (It’s like fairy bread for all my Bluey fans.) Or you could use them on cakes or cupcakes. You could put them in cookies (peanut butter cookies with jelly sprinkles??) or use them on ice cream. Or, honestly, I’d sprinkle some of the chocolate and peanut butter ones on a banana and call it a day.

Will you be purchasing these exciting new sprinkles? And what would you use them for? Let us know in the comments!

About the Author

Justine Sterling

Hi! I’m the editor-in-chief of Sporked. I will never turn down a fresh-shucked oyster but I’ll also leap at whatever new product Reese’s releases and I love a Tostitos Hint of Lime, even if there is no actual lime in the ingredients. Why you should trust me: I have been writing about food and beverages for well over a decade and am an avid at-home cook and snacker. I began my career writing about fine dining and recipes, moved into cocktails and spirits, and now I talk about groceries. If you can eat it or drink it, I’ve probably written about it. What I buy every week: Trader Joe’s dried okra. Appleton Farms prosciutto from Aldi. Some sort of Trader Joe’s cheese (I’m into the aged gouda at the moment). Frozen waffles (usually the Eggo Cinnamon Toast Minis). Spindrift water (loving the Cosmopolitan right now). Favorite ranking: Smoked salmon. Imagine me as Scrooge McDuck but instead of coins I’m diving into a vault of slippery smoked salmon slices. Pure joy. I also found some real steals in that taste test! Least favorite ranking: Canned oysters. I had such high hopes for this but it quickly became a chore. The kitchen smelled like an uncleaned aquarium.
