Just in time to celebrate KPop Demon Hunters winning the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, McDonald’s has debuted the HUNTRIX Meal at restaurants around the world. Ronald McDonald’s crew sent over a gift card so we could try the entire KPop Demon Hunters menu; stay tuned for our reviews of the Saja Boys Breakfast Meal and Derpy McFlurry. In the meantime, let’s find out whether these new sauces and fries will have us writing a takedown or going up, up, up.
- McDonald’s Hunter Sauce Review
-
Pros: This new(?) chili-garlic-pepper sauce has a similar profile to the existing Creamy Chili McStrip Dip–sans the “creamy” factor, of course. Considering the Creamy Chili sauce is my favorite McDonald’s condiment by a country mile (yes, even better than caviar), I’m not mad at all. After dipping a nugget in both sauces for my tasting notes, I used Hunter Sauce for the rest of my nuggets.
Cons: McDonald’s Senior Marketing Director Guillaume Huin revealed a few details about the HUNTRIX Meal release that make total sense in hindsight. If Hunter Sauce tastes familiar, that’s likely because we saw a very similar (if not identical) Sweet Chili Sauce recipe back in 2021 as part of the BTS Meal.

- McDonald’s Demon Sauce Review
-
Pros: According to Huin, this vibrant purple sauce is a naturally colored variant of the Cajun Sauce from the same BTS Meal promotion. It’s an underrated bonus that both sauces in the HUNTRIX Meal are authentically South Korean… well, South Korean fast food, at least. Both sauces are based on popular flavors from McDonald’s South Korean menu.
Cons: That being said, this purple hot mustard was anything but demonic. The Hunter Sauce had more heat, so this “bold” sauce ended up falling flat in comparison.

- McDonald’s Ramyeon McShaker Fries Review
-
Pros: Other countries have known for a while now that McShaker Fries are the way of the future, so I’m glad we’re finally catching up here in the States. The Ramyeon seasoning smells exactly like the seasoning packet you’d find in a pack of the dorm room staple, to the point that I’m surprised it’s vegetarian-friendly. Flavor-wise, Ramyeon McShaker Fries definitely deliver a new level of umami that McDonald’s hasn’t dipped into before. The Golden Arches’ fries are always good, but now they’re interesting.
Cons: The Ramyeon packet is the same size whether you get your HUNTRIX Meal in Medium or Large, so my Medium Fries ended up extra-seasoned. I’d recommend getting a Large HUNTRIX Meal if you don’t want to suffer from umami overload.
