As the old adage goes, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” – although in this case, I’m tempted to tweak it slightly to “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it…rename it.” What the hell am I talking about? I’m talking about what Burger King’s up to. The burger chain, which customers feel is doing much better lately, has made a couple of moves this summer that confirm that it knows what works and what its diners are into. Exhibit A came in the form of its returning fan-favorite nuggets. Exhibit B is keeping a couple of items from its recent Star Wars collab on the menu.

To spare you the embarrassment of having to utter their Mandalorian-themed names, though (hey, if they’re nowhere to be seen on the menu, it feels a little weird), it’s changed what they’re called. But what are they now? And why, oh why, have they done this? We’ll discuss.
It’s Rebrand Time!
Amidst the release of its summer menu, Burger King shared that it had decided to extend the shelf life on two of its limited-time menu items from its Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu collaboration. That menu featured the BBQ Bounty Whopper and Imperial Cheddar Ranch Tots, both of which are now available throughout the summer.
By the looks of things, Burger King hasn’t changed anything about these items but their names: They’re now called the Bacon Swiss BBQ Whopper and Cheddar Ranch Tots, respectively. Ingredients-wise, they’re still the same, and the Bounty BBQ Sauce that was in the former is now just called…BBQ Sauce. I’ve gotta say, that’s kind of taken the pizzazz away from it a little – but I get the reasoning behind it. Meanwhile, the other items on the Star Wars menu, like Grogu’s Blue Cookie Shake and Grogu’s Garlic Chicken Fries, have disappeared. It was fun while it lasted.
Any Sense Of Why They’re Sticking Around?
Honestly, not really. The cynical out there might assume, not unreasonably, that Burger King has just over-ordered on its ingredients, and now it has to keep these menu items going to get through them. I’m personally inclined to think that it’s keeping them because they’re actually pretty good. When we taste-tested the BBQ Bounty Whopper, we felt that it was a solid entry into the Burger King canon – and it’s not that far away from its other burgers, so it’s not a huge inconvenience for BK to keep it.
Whatever its reasoning, these two items are available now. Get them before Burger King changes its mind!
