Today, Burger King launches a brand-new The Mandalorian and Grogu menu promoting the upcoming film. BK brought yours truly out to headquarters last week for an early taste test of the entire menu; here’s what I thought of the new BBQ Bounty Whopper at the center of the chain’s new “Bounty Bundle.”

New Star Wars Whopper!

Pros: Some limited-time-only menu items feature a single new ingredient that separates them from the standard, but this burger has multiple changes worth noting. The BBQ Bounty Whopper uses Swiss cheese rather than American. In lieu of the standard pickle slices, the burger is topped with crispy ranch-seasoned pickle chips (last seen on the BK menu during the Million Dollar Whopper promotion). As for sauce, the BBQ Bounty Whopper features a brand-new creamy Bounty BBQ sauce–that’s right, this menu brings two new sauces to Burger King’s menu. (And as you’d expect from any BBQ burger these days, there’s bacon.)

All of these elevated additions to the classic Whopper deliver a unique, layered burger that will take you for a ride, Star Wars fan or not. There are new textures, new flavors, and a new presentation for the Whopper. (A Beskar-patterned wrapper and a Mandalorian helmet-shaped carton? They know what the nerds want.)

Cons: Could this be too much new stuff? I love a new take on a classic, but this Whopper is so different from the original that I found it hard to pinpoint exactly where all the new flavors were coming from. I didn’t want to do a full burger deconstruction in the King’s house, so I couldn’t narrow down exactly how I felt about the ranch-dusted pickle chips and the new sauce on their own. The BBQ Bounty Whopper is solid overall; I just wish I could determine why.

What’s the Bounty Bundle?

Burger King has four new menu items launching as part of this promotional menu; the “Bounty Bundle” contains all four items inside an extra-large branded carton–plus one of four 32oz collector cups, while supplies last. (Burger King has a long history with Star Wars, starting with a similar collector cup release back in 1977, promoting the launch of the very first film.) Starting at $19.99, the Bounty Bundle contains the BBQ Bounty Whopper, an 8-piece Grogu’s Garlic Chicken Fries with new Garlic Sauce, an 8-piece Imperial Cheddar Ranch Tots, and a Grogu’s Blue Cookie Shake.
