Target’s New Pizzas Are Perfect For Halloween

Halloween food isn’t just about candy. Oh, no. We’re way beyond that. Now, pretty much anything that food manufacturers can think of with the capacity to be made spooky will be made spooky – and savory Halloween treats, while not a new frontier, are on the rise. A couple of weeks ago, Hershey’s announced that it would be bringing out some “healthy” Halloween snacks that featured some savory flavors, and over in fast food world, restaurants are busy debuting their Halloween meals for the year.

Grocery stores are getting in on the action, too. Target has just dropped two Halloween-themed pizzas, ensuring that customers everywhere can frighten themselves with every bite of cheese, meat, and dough. Let’s discuss.

Market Pantry Halloween Pizzas

Instagram food influencer @markie_devo has just announced that Target has released a duo of Halloween-themed Market Pantry pizzas, which will be available in its prepared foods section. You can either get a Ghost-Shaped Pizza or a Pumpkin-Shaped Pizza. One ghoulish, one…squash-ish. Thankfully, Target didn’t try to put any cut-outs in the pizza itself to indicate any eyes or spooky faces, because that would have been, quite literally, a recipe for disaster.

Both of the pizzas are largely the same, bar their shapes: They’re both thin-crust pepperoni and cheese with a dusting of Italian herbs and spices on top. They do have a few subtle differences, however. The Pumpkin-Shaped Pizza has shredded cheddar cheese on it, while the Ghost-Shaped Pizza sticks with mozzarella. There’s also a difference in size, which cost-conscious customers might want to note. Target’s Ghost-Shaped Pizza is 15.14 ounces, according to its website, while its Pumpkin-Shaped Pizza is 17.45 ounces – and yet, they both cost the same $6.00. If you’re looking for value for money, go for the latter. You’ll forget all about the shape once you’ve eaten it, anyway. 

A Slicing Saga

Over on @markie_devo’s post about the pizzas, people seem generally pretty jazzed about them (well, as jazzed as one can get over a supermarket pizza in a slightly different shape). Yes, they won’t change the world, but they’re being received as they’re meant to be: As a bit of fun. One person, though, did point out a potential slicing issue: “Ok but….how am I supposed to cut the ghost pizza?” It’s a fair point. The shape is cute, but wholly impractical for equal slices. Some creativity may be needed to prevent any squabbling over portion sizes.
