Well, well, well. Just when we thought that Walmart’s Bettergoods line couldn’t get any more expansive and creative, we find ourselves eating our words. Once again, we receive news that the grocery store’s private label is adding new products to its selection: It was just last week that we were talking about its new ice creams, and just two weeks ago we were talking about its fall desserts. The briskness with which Bettergoods is pumping out these things is at this point no longer surprising, but it is notable how it just…carries on going.

This time, though, it’s betting big on the drinks trend of the moment. We now have Bettergoods prebiotic sodas. Crack open a can with us, won’t you?
Bettergoods Prebiotic Sodas
Yesterday, @candyhunting, who tends to have the first scoop on all things Bettergoods-related, revealed that Walmart is adding four new sodas to its lineup. These are actually prebiotic AND postbiotic sodas, meaning that they have both non-digestible plant fibers for your gut bacteria to feast on and inactive Bifidobacterium longum, which can improve digestive health and support your immune system. The first thing to point out about the branding here is that Bettergoods’ new sodas feel very much in the vein of Olipop, Poppi, and Bloom Pop (aka, for our money, the three biggest prebiotic soda makers out there right now), what with their colorful cans and cartoon art. This is somewhat coincidental, given that Bettergoods products all have that kind of vibe – but hey, still worth saying.
Anyway, to the flavors. Bettergoods is starting this line with four options: Crisp Apple, Cherry Limeade, Strawberry Guava, and Dr. Fizz (three guesses as to what that one is). There’s no word on whether Walmart has more flavors planned after these, but if they’re a hit, it wouldn’t be a surprise.
Hit Or Miss?
Bettergoods’ new sodas are heading to Walmart stores soon, where they’ll join the private label’s line of sparkling waters. It’s too early to call it on which flavors will rise to the top, but if I had to put my money on it, I think Crisp Apple is likely going to be a winner. I have no proof of this, but prebiotic sodas tend to work best for me when they’re not trying to be too sweet, and this one, unless I’m completely wrong, feels like it’ll have a good tartness to it.
This line’s potential customers, meanwhile, are calling into question one of the flavors here. “Have not tried a BFY (better-for-you) dupe that tastes remotely close to a Dr Pepper — hope this one’s good!” said a comment on @candyhunting’s post. Ball’s in your court, Walmart.
