Trader Joe’s New Yogurts Have Customers Saying The Same Thing

In my experience, when you find a good yogurt, it’s worth hanging on to. This simple food can go one of two ways: It can either be insipid, watery, and vaguely tasteless, or thick, creamy, luscious, and full of flavor. Non-dairy yogurts and yogurt alternatives can be even harder to nail, especially when additional flavors are thrown into the mix. You wouldn’t think this food is a minefield, and it’s perhaps hyperbolic to say that it is – but more things can go wrong than you might think.

Trader Joe’s clearly knows this well – and we’re pleased to say its new non-dairy yogurts are hitting a lot of positive notes with its customers. Where’s my spoon? I wanna dig in.

Trader Joe’s Organic Greek Style Cashew And Coconut Yogurt Alternatives

Trader Joe’s has just dropped two new Organic Greek Style Cashew And Coconut Yogurt Alternatives, in Mixed Berry and Strawberry Vanilla flavors. Both non-dairy yogurts are made with organic cashews and organic coconut cream, with some organic cornstarch mixed in to thicken them up and organic cane sugar to sweeten the deal. Rice protein, lemon juice, and flavorings (again, all organic) are then rolled in, and live and active probiotics are also added, so these yogurt alternatives have some of the gut-friendly punch that regular yogurt has.

What we especially love to see is that these yogurt alternatives actually have protein in them. Anyone who has even a vague familiarity with non-dairy yogurt will know that it can often be fairly high in fat, but low in protein; that’s not the case here (although these flavors do contain 4 grams of saturated fat per serving). Each one has 10 grams of protein per single-serving container, or 11% of your recommended daily allowance.

The People Have Spoken

These new non-dairy options have started to pop up in Trader Joe’s stores, and it’s safe to say they may well become a new favorite. “I love these so much. Need a big one,” said one customer on Reddit (with another person pointing out that there are big ones, so keep your eyes peeled!). Someone else stated that they’re better than TJ’s other non-dairy yogurt options.

Another customer, though, did make the point that a lot of the time, yogurt alternatives don’t just come in a regular Greek yogurt flavor – and honestly, it’s a fair point. I’d imagine it’s because it’s tricky to emulate with the likes of coconut and cashew; Greek yogurt’s tanginess comes from its fermentation, after all. Until the food team at Trader Joe’s figure that one out, these are a worthy alternative.
