OREO Thins are basically the “classy” arm of the OREO brand. These slimmer variants of the classic sandwich cookie lean into elevated indulgent flavors like Chocolate Ganache, Tiramisu, and Irish Creme. As a concept, espresso fits naturally into that group, but you won’t find the new Espresso Creme OREO Thins on shelves alongside them. OREO has produced just 1,000 packs of these new Thins for an online giveaway, and they were nice enough to send us an early sample to review.

Why is OREO locking a flavor behind a super-exclusive giveaway?
I’m not entirely sure, but I know it isn’t a wholly new idea. Last year, OREO released 1,000 packs of Cherry Blossom Matcha OREO Thins through an identical giveaway: sign up, get an email on release day, be one of the first 1,000 to complete your order, and receive a pack of special rare cookies for a nominal shipping fee. (The first time around, that fee was $13; this time, you’ll only need to spend $3.)
I had mixed opinions on the previous holder of the Rarest American OREO title. Can the new champion fare better? Will I be even more confused that we’re locking select OREO flavors behind what amounts to a lottery system? There’s only one way to find out; let’s ruin the resale value of a box of cookies.
