Today’s the day. On Tuesday, November 3, millions upon millions of people will cast their votes in the midterms, adding their voice to the millions who have already submitted their ballots. It’s going to be a long one – for the people voting, for the people working in polling stations, for the news anchors reporting on buildup, speculation, and, eventually, results. In short: Everyone’s going to need their strength and some energy to get through it all.

That’s what Krispy Kreme hopes to help out with. For today only, it’s giving away free doughnuts to people who have voted. Here’s how you get yours.

Krispy Kreme Free Doughnut

Krispy Kreme is both marking and celebrating Election Day today by giving away free Original Glazed doughnuts at participating US stores. To avail of your free doughnut, you just have to show up: First to the polling station, and then to its shops. Head in-store and tell the cashier that you’ve voted or show them an “I Voted” sticker, and you’ll get your doughnut, without any purchase required.

Krispy Kreme’s free doughnut giveaway this year is a continuation of an offer it ran on polling days in 2020, 2022, and 2024, when it also gave out Original Glazed doughnuts to voters. This year, though, it’s being slightly more on-the-nose about customers saying or proving they’ve voted. Krispy Kreme is leaning into the importance of voting in its statement about the offer, too. “Showing up for our communities – whether by voting or volunteering at the polls – is worth celebrating,” said Krispy Kreme’s chief brand and product officer, Alison Holder, in a press release. Krispy Kreme has been in the habit of giving away free doughnuts recently, too: It last did so during Halloween, just a couple of days ago.

Food + Democracy

Krispy Kreme isn’t the only food business to acknowledge the midterms this year, although only a handful of companies and franchises have actively done so. Ben & Jerry’s announced the return of its Waffle Lotta Good program back in late September, with this year’s donations going towards supporting democracy-related initiatives. Subway, meanwhile, shifted its own National Sandwich Day celebrations from November 3 (the date the national food day falls on) to the week before to mark the return of some limited-time items.

To be honest, the latter was probably a wise move. If you had to choose whether National Sandwich Day or the midterms were more important…well, I think I know which one most people would name. As for Krispy Kreme, meanwhile, if you were already looking for a snack after you voted, it’s got you covered. And if this offer entices you to go and vote in the first place…well, it’s done its job.
