Great Value frozen food doesn’t get insanely creative, but their meals do have one reliable thing in common: they’re very, very comfort-oriented. Meaning, it’s easy to find a few favorites and keep going back for them, week after week.

Okay, to be fair, they have another reliable thing in common―they’re cheap (it’s in the name, after all: Great Value). But that first thing is more important. Since frozen meals and frozen dinners are usually meant for hurried, busy nights, the kinds of frozen meals we like best are the most comforting (because chances are, on busy nights, you’ll be craving comfort as much as anything else). So no, Great Value won’t give you the kind of culinary quirkiness you might find in other big store brand frozen meals. But Great Value frozen options like the fiver we highlight below will deliver (and re-deliver) comforting but still bold and nostalgic flavors, with a little wiggle room for modification (if you’re busy, but also feeling a little creative)―making any of these reliable repeats on our “frozen dinner frenzy” kind of nights.
Famous Chicken Fingers
While nobody technically “needs” three pounds of chicken fingers, you can’t say it’s not a wonderful thing to have on hand. And while we can’t attest whether these are truly “famous” outside the world of frozen value shopping, they’ve gotten some serious love in the online review world. (See the words: “best,” and “damn” and “chicken strips” and “ever.”) FYI, the chicken is actually uncooked. Yes, that decreases convenience a bit, but it also gives you more culinary control when it comes to crispness, juiciness, even things like added seasoning, making this a great repeat staple buy from week-to-week.
Honey Mustard Chicken Sheet Pan Meal
We’re semi-softies for honey mustard (the aforementioned three-pound bag of Great Value Famous Chicken Fingers would get absolutely smothered in it). Here, we don’t have to do the work of dipping because GV’s done it for us with a big (31-ounce) sheet pan meal, with diced chicken, potatoes, green beans, and a “chef-inspired” creamy honey mustard sauce. Seriously though, there’s Dijon mustard, white wine, turmeric, and garlic (to start). Customers tend to review it well, noting it’s a lot like homemade sheet pan dinners (and those are classics in comfort food). Customers also say it’s helpful (and easy) to modify this one―another reason it’s a Great Value frozen meal we’d buy on repeat.
Pepperoni & Cheese Filled Sandwiches
In general, it’s probably true that more things should start with the descriptor “pepperoni and cheese filled.” But, for now, we have this 12-pack of Hot Pocket-esque “sandwiches” from Great Value that come in at about $10 and are totally ooey-gooey and microwavable. Not only that, unless you’re somewhere you can buy an actual (and single) slice of pizza, this is one of the most affordable ways we can think of to cheaply, quickly satisfy that inevitably weekly pepperoni craving.
Stacked Beef Burrito
Since it’s already easy-breezy frozen dinner night, it might as well also be comfy-cozy burrito night, and we might as well also take that burrito and turn it into a lasagna-type thing like this. And it’s not just the cheesy, bean-y burrito-y “mess” we’re into. There’s actually a good mix of flavors in there: cheddar cheese, ancho chile, garlic, onion, chipotle peppers, paprika, refried pinto beans, and, of course, beef. When we’re looking for repeat or staple frozen meal products, something with bold flavors like this is ideal―it delivers a punch on a (maybe) busy night, it’s fun, kind of unique, and easily adjustable (add extra cheese, salsa, avocado, you name it).
Five Cheese Texas Toast
It’s hard to screw up Texas toast (thick, soft bread, gooey cheese). And the price is right―you can usually find GV’s Five Cheese Texas Toast for about two bucks. And yes, this might not qualify as a “meal” in everyone’s book―but that’s where Walmart and value shopping in general come in for the win. Buy an 8-pack of these surprisingly flavor-packed toasts (Asiago, provolone, parsley, garlic) and on any tired, cold night just grab one from the freezer and chuck a fried egg or some sliced turkey on it.
