When 7UP announced its first new flavor in 15 years and that flavor turned out to be almost exactly 7UP with just a bit more lime, we were all confused. And yes, they called the new flavor a “disruptor.” But the lemon-lime or lime-lemon brand just announced a new, limited time soda flavor for 2027 that actually sounds unique this time. The name? 7UP Miami Vice. It’s gonna be sparkly, it’s probably going to be pinkish, and it’s coming to a store near you in June of next year.

What Could Be So Vice-y About This New 7UP?
June 2027 feels forever away from now. But that gives us time to fully download the concept of just what a Miami Vice-themed soda collaboration could be. Per 7UP and parent company Keurig Dr Pepper, the new 7UP® Miami Vice™ will combine “refreshing lime-lemon, sweet strawberry daiquiri, and creamy piña colada flavors.”
Yes, that does sound like a lot to pack into one bottle. The idea, says 7UP, is to create “a tropical soda experience inspired by a classic frozen cocktail.” It’s actually two frozen cocktails―the beachy-sweet, rum-packed strawberry daiquiri and its pineapple coconutty cousin, the piña colada. We doubt 7UP would try to mimic the rummy flavor, so we’re expecting something (as they said) tropical, with definite strawberry-pineapple flavors tartly comingling and maybe some creaminess from the coconut vibe.
So What’s So Miami About It?
It’s a fun and genuinely unexpected concept from 7UP who, despite our reasonably annoyed reaction to the “new” lime-forward 7UP, seem to be retaining the lime-lemon as a flavor baseline for 7UP Miami Vice. But what’s more unexpected (and might be lost on younger soda pop drinkers) is the inspiration for the name, because it’s not just beachy cocktails. Miami Vice was the name of an iconic, ’80s-vibed cop show set against the shoulder pads, big hair, and orangey tans of 1980s Vice Squad in Miami, Florida. The show was only on for five seasons but attained sufficient cult status for its ’80s kitsch and melodrama (also Don Johnson).
So while it might not seem like the most natural name for a soda, the cultural crossover, cocktail flavors, and the gazillion nostalgia points 7UP will get for hyping the ’80s makes it a surefire winner once it comes out next year. People are already excited, so when you do see it, grab it.
