This Hack Improves One Of Aldi’s Most Disappointing Items

Aldi has its fair share of duds, and to be honest, it’s hard to tell sometimes whether the item in your hands is going to be worth it or not. The German retailer’s reputation for value precedes it, but for every product that feels like a steal for its price and quality, there’s a disappointing imitation, a cringy item capitalizing on a trend, or a food that’s undergone a recipe change, which has gotten worse.

Now, if you’re a customer who’s made of particularly stern stuff, you might well not put up with this and hastily get these disappointing items back to your local store for a return. I, however, am way less likely to try and get refunds on perishable food items; once I’m home, I tend to just wallow in disappointment, beaten by the hassle of taking it back. If you’ve picked up one of its quiches recently, you may not have to do that anymore.

Park Street Deli Quiches: A Few Tweaks Make All The Difference

Recently, an Aldi customer took to Reddit to discuss its Park Street Deli quiches, which they said were “exceedingly bland” (the customer in question referred both to Aldi’s Uncured Ham And Swiss Quiche and its Broccoli And Cheddar Quiche). However, they then went on to tell the good people of the internet how to hack their quiches to make them way better. “Perforate the entire top with a fork multiple times,” they said. “Sprinkle garlic salt, onion powder, salt & pepper and a little bit of Accent all across the top and rub it in a bit.” If you don’t have any Accent, you can use any other umami booster.

Then, the customer said to bake the quiche as directed, and then, 10 minutes before the quiche is done, top it with a bunch of grated sharp cheddar cheese. “This made a HUGE difference and elevated the flavor,” they said. “This is now a staple for us on busy days and sure beats making a quiche from scratch.”

Transform Your Tarts

Even the most tentative of home cooks can do this hack – it takes little more than some stabbing and sprinkling – and other Aldi customers pitched in in the Reddit thread, saying they approved. If we may, we’d also recommend introducing some contrast. Store-bought quiches can often be very one-note, and while the extra seasonings here will add intensity, they may not introduce balance; so, try finishing it off with some sliced, dressed cherry tomatoes, or add a few dollops of hot pepper jelly before you slice it and serve it. Bad lunches? Never heard of ’em.
