We Tried the New Blue Gatorade: Aqua Blast!

This is a big year for Gatorade. The brand is turning 60, and PepsiCo has big plans for the diamond anniversary of Gatorade. First up? It’s Gatorade Aqua Blast (not to be confused with Mountain Dew Baja Blast), which is exclusively available at Walmart for a limited time. We got our hands on the new Gatorade flavor. Read on to find out if it’s a blast or better left in the past.

Pros: This new blue Gatorade flavor is very smooth and sweet. I mainly get a very strong pineapple flavor joined by various other tropical flavors—maybe a little lime and some mango. It is very refreshing. But it’s not the best blue Gatorade.

Cons: The brand stated on Twitter (you can’t make me call it the letter) that Aqua Blast is pineapple mango flavored. While I certainly taste the pineapple, the mango flavor is pretty weak, which is definitely disappointing to me. Aqua Blast is a great flavor, but it could be even better if the mango was a bit stronger. Also, while I’m not going to count this against Gatorade, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little bit disappointed that it doesn’t taste at all like Baja Blast despite the name and hue.

While this new Gatorade flavor is definitely worth seeking out and enjoying while its limited time run lasts, I can’t help but wonder how different it might taste if it had a bit more mango flavor. Maybe if it returns it can come back with a rejiggered formula.
