This summer truly has been defined by the pop culture relationship of Zendaya and Tom Holland. And not only have they defined the style and media pop culture moments, but the relationship has been pretty defining for Tom Holland’s nonalcoholic beer brand Bero as well.

Not only did Bero release a summer shandy collection inspired by Zendaya‘s alcohol preferences, but Bero is releasing two different limited collections to accompany the movie stars’ premieres. Tom Holland, the co-founder of Bero, plays Telemachus (the son of Odysseus) in The Odyssey and has the lead role of Spider-Man for the fourth consecutive Spider-Man film in its long franchise. Holland’s wife, Zendaya co-stars with him in each of these movies as Athena in The Odyssey and MJ in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, continuing her year of major box-office success. The Odyssey and Spider-Man are each getting exclusive launches off screen and in our glasses. So let’s break down what The Odyssey x Bero launch entails―and, better yet, it’s out now!
All About The Beer
As for the flavor of this new Bero launch, it’s nothing we haven’t seen before. In fact, it’s the classic Bero Noon Wheat from its original lineup. It’s considered a true wheat beer, so not leaning into that IPA or Pilsner flavor. And, as per our official Sporked review, it’s light and fruity and would be great to sip on on a hot summer day… perhaps in Ithaca?
But, what really makes this new launch interesting isn’t the flavor at all. The packs of this limited-time launch are cinematic in a way that honors the legacy of Christopher Nolan, the movie’s director. The six-packs are packed in a limited edition case decorated with the waves and ships of the classic epic. Break the case open and the decoration doesn’t cease.
The Connection To The Movie
Each can in the case is decorated in one of three unique can designs inspired by pivotal moments in the film. One of the designs represents the Trojan horse, one illustrates the ship that carries them on their voyage, and one represents a mythical sea beast, the Scylla. The designs are all beautifully illustrated with gold, white, and tan colors that really feel reminiscent of a different time.
The release is the perfect combination of new and old, much like Nolan’s rendition of The Odyssey based on the recent translation from Emily Wilson, the first woman to ever have a published translation of the Homer’s epic. With Bero, it takes the new concept of nonalcoholic beers that invites people from a much wider audience to enjoy the product and gives it a distinctly mythical look. To me, this crossover makes perfect sense, even beyond Holland’s involvement.
