College Inn Beef Broth

It might not be your go-to broth, but when it’s good, beef broth can add so much depth of flavor to a dish. And let’s not forget about French onion soup—a king of soup and you can’t make it without the best beef broth. And if you’re talking store bought broth, then it’s gotta be College Inn Beef Broth. It’s so savory, it practically tastes like it was made with a packet of instant ramen powder. This stuff is good, good, good.

Baxters Luxury Beef Consomme Soup (Best Fancy)

Best Beef Consomme

Baxters Beef Consomme

Making a beef on weck at home? Look at you! Good job! You need the best beef consomme, which is Baxters. What sets Baxters apart from the other consomme broths we tried? That would be the inclusion of sherry. It really adds some extra complexity that sets it apart from plain beef broth. It’s also super easy to prep—just open and heat.

Best of the Best: Zoup Chicken Bone Broth

Best Bone Broth

Zoup Chicken Bone Broth

If you’re looking for bone broth to sip or cook with or use as a beauty supplement to fuel your hair and nails, then this is the best broth to buy. It has an intense chicken flavor that’s packed with umami, but it’s still lower in sodium than a lot of the other quality bone broths we included in our bone broth ranking. It’s so silky smooth—thanks to all that collagen—and it’s tasty, too.

Trader Joe’s Organic Hearty Vegetable Broth

Best Vegetable Broth

Trader Joe’s Organic Hearty Vegetable Broth

TJ’s knows its way around a savory liquid (you’ll see it again on this list). This vegetable broth is so flavorful, but not too salty, and you can really taste the vegetables. We’re talking carrots, celery, even garlic—they’re all identifiable. If you’re vegetarian or simply looking for a really good veggie broth, this is the best store bought broth to score.

Trader Joe’s Organic Free Range Chicken Broth

Best Chicken Broth

Trader Joe’s Organic Free Range Chicken Broth

According to Sporked managing editor Gwynedd Stuart, this is the best chicken broth “by a mile.” It actually tastes like chicken, which sounds like, duh, but we tried a bunch of store bought chicken broth brands and so many of them did not. It’s richly chickeny with the intensity of roast chicken drippings—and it’s not even that high in sodium. This is the best broth to stock up on for pretty much any recipe (if you’re not a vegetarian, of course).
