- Rao’s Chicken Noodle Soup
-
You know and love Rao’s marinara sauce (it’s one of the best marinara sauces out there), but did you know Rao’s also makes soups?! This is the best chicken noodle soup because it tastes like it could be homemade chicken noodle soup. The noodles hold up well to the broth and the broth is a little herby. It may not be canned chicken noodle soup, but it’s just as easy to prepare and way more delicious.

- Pacific Foods Organic Creamy Tomato Soup
-
Justine Sterling knows soup and Justine Sterling loves Pacific Foods Organic Creamy Tomato Soup. It’s the best tomato soup we’ve ever tried from the grocery store. It might even be our favorite soup in general that we’ve ever bought at the grocery store. It’s as decadent as plain tomato soup can get, thanks to the organic milk from dairies local to Oregon (according to Pacific Foods). The tomatoes are sweet. The onions and garlic are aromatic. Trust Justine when she says, “Buy this soup!”

- Amy’s Gluten-Free Mushroom Bisque Soup
-
Canned mushroom soup is super underrated. It’s typically used for green bean casserole and, uh, that’s it? This mushroom soup from Amy’s, however, is the kind of soup you want to enjoy as soup. It’s one of the best tasting canned soup options we’ve ever tried. It has tons of mushrooms and an intense mushroom flavor, almost like it was made with dried mushrooms. This tastes like mushroom soup you’d get at a nice restaurant.

- Dinty Moore Beef Stew
-
This is the best canned beef stew because it sets the standard for all other canned beef stew. It isn’t shy about bringing the rich thickness of a stew. It’s chock-full of perfectly cooked vegetables you’d think just came from a pot off a campfire, cooked by the rugged hands of a mountain man. And you can tell Clara Peller (may she rest in peace) if she is still asking her age old question in the great beyond, the beef is right here in this can. Dinty Moore’s beef stew is hearty, it is bold, and it is oh-so delicious.

- Progresso Beef Pot Roast with Country Vegetables Soup
-
While they may not be one of the best canned soup brands in general, Progresso makes one mean vegetable beef soup. There are tons of veggies, like carrots, potatoes, green beans, tomatoes, and pieces of onion. Plus it has a strong beefy flavor. And, unlike most canned soups, this one isn’t packed with sodium.

- Bare Bones Lentil Curry Plant-Based Soup
-
I love lentil soup and I loved Bare Bones Lentil Curry Plant-Based Soup. Bare Bones’ lentil soup is warm and inviting and easily our favorite lentil soup. It’s filled with lentils, vegetables, and spicy aromatics. The curry flavor is very balanced and not overpowering. I plan to keep this soup stocked in my pantry because it is like such a hearty, simple meal.

- Bar Harbor New England Style Clam Chowder
-
Bar Harbor New England Style Clam is our favorite clam chowder and one of the best tasting canned soup brands we’ve tried. This stuff is better than some of the clam chowders I’ve tried at restaurants. It has an oceanic salinity without coming off as fishy. It’s loaded with cream, tiny cubed potatoes, and tender, meaty clams. And unlike most of the canned clam chowders we tried, this is nice and thick. I never thought I’d really stan a canned clam chowder, but here we are.

- Amy’s Organic Southwestern Fire-Roasted Vegetable Soup
-
“Imagine the best vegetable soup you ever tasted had a baby with a perfectly spiced tortilla soup—that’s Amy’s Southwest Vegetable Soup in a nutshell.” I (Jordan Myrick) am right! This vegetable soup is flavorful enough to enjoy on its own but would be even better topped with diced raw onion, and a squeeze of fresh lime. Add tortilla chips for dunking and you have a scrumptious dinner. This was easily the most flavorful vegetable soup we tried in our vegetable soup taste test.

- Signature Cafe Broccoli Cheddar Soup
-
We can’t believe we’re saying this, but Panera doesn’t make the best broccoli cheddar soup at the grocery store. You’ll find this in the deli section at Albertsons-owned grocery stores and, believe us, it’s worth seeking out. It tastes like broccoli and cheddar in equal measure—it’s cheesy, vegetal (it contains both florets and stems), and perfectly seasoned. And we love that it’s gluten free.

- Panera Baked Potato Soup
-
The best potato soup is…also from Panera. Sorry! Panera knows soup and is one of best store bought soup brands to ever exist. This soup is thick, rich, and creamy. While it’s not the best Panera soup, it’s still pretty dang delicious. I think if you added some freshly cracked black pepper you could really take this potato soup to the next level. That being said, it’s still tasty with literally nothing added at all.

- Panera Bread Autumn Squash Soup
-
Broccoli cheddar isn’t the only good soup from Panera. Their Autumn Squash soup is also our favorite butternut squash soup! It’s so creamy and the perfect balance of sweet and savory. Plus, it has a nice bit of saltiness. Buy this soup this fall to really get into the season.

- Panera Broccoli Cheddar
-
The best store bought Panera soup should come as no surprise to anyone. It’s broccoli cheddar! Panera Broccoli Cheddar soup from the grocery store is just about perfect. It’s creamy and cheesy and indulgent. There’s plenty of broccoli, but it’s mostly like eating molten cheddar cheese with a spoon. We will not be returning to Panera and will just be buying this from the store instead, for the rest of forever.

- Andersen’s Creamy Split Pea Soup
-
This is not only one of the best split pea soups, it’s one of the best store bought soups ever. We have all separately bought this soup since this taste test. It’s so savory and creamy and delicious. We recommend topping it with shredded cheese and sour cream to take it to the next level. This soup is the soup to end all soups.

- Campbell’s Chunky Minestrone with Italian Sausage
-
The best minestrone changed my mind about minestrone. It also made me realize that minestrone should definitely have sausage in it. The two types of sausage in this canned minestrone add a ton of much needed fat and flavor. Sausage freaks, this is the best store bought soup for you!

- Progresso Reduced Sodium Savory Chicken & Wild Rice
-
This may not technically be “low sodium” soup, but it has a lot less sodium than a lot of other chicken soups in the canned food aisle. What’s wild (besides the rice in this soup) is that it still tastes really good. The rice is nutty, the chunks of chicken are substantial and meaty, and the broth is still super savory even though it isn’t as salty as the other canned soups on this list. If you’re trying to reduce your sodium intake, this soup proves you don’t have to sacrifice a scrumptious meal in the process.

- Chef’s Cupboard Cream of Chicken Condensed Soup
-
In a real plot twist, managing editor Gwynedd Stuart calls Aldi’s cream of chicken soup “dramatically better than Campbell’s.” We love that for you, Aldi. And we love the amount of shredded chicken in this soup—not those gross chicken cubes brands love to use. (Why, oh why, must that be the standard for canned soup?) The flavor is top notch, and it mixes with water like a dream. Plus, you really can’t find a cream of chicken soup any cheaper than this.

- Pacific Foods Harvest Black Bean Chili
-
Pacific Foods has done it again with their Harvest Black Bean Chili. This extra savory soup isn’t too salty, which already puts it ahead of many canned black bean options. Typical of the brand, everything tastes surprisingly fresh, and the textures are spot-on: crisp corn, pleasantly chewy farro, and tender black beans that don’t turn to sludge. Nothing about this feels phoned-in or cheap or even remotely unhealthy—but no, I will not be checking the nutrition facts. Ignorance is bliss.

- Trader Joe’s Lobster Bisque
-
In a world of mediocre store-bought lobster bisque soups, Trader Joe’s stands tall. It’s richly creamy, packed with little bits of lobster, and has an almost buttery quality that allows it to double as a great pasta sauce, too. Nothing beats an old fish ‘n chips shack on the coast, but right now, this is the closest you can get from the grocery store.

- Pacific Foods Poblano Pepper & Corn Chowder
-
Sweet and a little fiery? That’s my kind of man. I mean can. Soup can. Duh. This corn chowder has a downright aggressive spice from the mix of roasted poblano peppers and chile peppers. It’s such a nice change from all those dull creamy soups hogging the shelves. Most importantly, this tastes really fresh for a canned soup (Pacific Foods is typically pretty good about that). The grilled corn stayed crisp and smoky even after we simmered the hell out of it on the stove. But to be clear, it is still pretty sweet. If that’s not your jam for soup season, check out the other best canned soups on this list!

- Amy’s French Country Vegetable
-
Rarely do we describe food as “delightfully bland” here at Sporked, but that’s the gist of Amy’s French Country Vegetable. This little can is packed with slow-cooked veggies (mercifully free of veggie skins, though), white beans, and red rice to make a thick, velvety, savory soup that’s somehow made more enticing by how boring it is. The flavor is just very soothing. And if you aren’t having it with a fresh baguette, you aren’t getting the maximum cozy experience, trust us.
