The frozen food aisle is home to a treasure trove of incredible products. There’s ice cream, of course, but there’s also frozen waffles, frozen meals, frozen chicken potpies, frozen pizza! And wings! Who can forget frozen wings? If that all seems overwhelming or you, like me, have a teeny tiny freezer that must be perfectly curated at all times, then allow us to recommend two must-haves. It was a tough decision—we tried a ton of very good frozen food in 2022. But we made the call. Here is the best frozen food item we tasted in 2022 (and a very close runner-up).

As Danny Palumbo wrote in our best frozen french fries ranking, “Lamb Weston is the king of frozen french fries.” And I can’t disagree. This is as close to restaurant-style french fries you can get at home without living with a chef. The fries are extremely well seasoned with a crispiness that typically only comes from double-frying. According to Danny, that’s thanks to a coating of modified food starch (potato, corn, and tapioca). Thank you, science. It doesn’t matter what you serve as a main, these frozen fries will be the star of the show (the show being dinner).
Cappello’s ravioli tied for first in our best frozen ravioli ranking, but it gets the edge because they are gluten-free. The team was shocked at how good they were. “They’re so cheesy,” Jordan Myrick wrote in their review. “They practically burst when you bite into them.” The pasta itself was perfectly toothsome. You would never know it was gluten-free without looking at the label. As Jordan proclaimed, this is the best on the market—gluten-free or not. Toss a few with one of our top jarred marinara sauces or pesto sauces and dine on the best.
Hi! I’m the editor-in-chief of Sporked. I will never turn down a fresh-shucked oyster but I’ll also leap at whatever new product Reese’s releases and I love a Tostitos Hint of Lime, even if there is no actual lime in the ingredients.
Why you should trust me: I have been writing about food and beverages for well over a decade and am an avid at-home cook and snacker. I began my career writing about fine dining and recipes, moved into cocktails and spirits, and now I talk about groceries. If you can eat it or drink it, I’ve probably written about it.
What I buy every week: Trader Joe’s dried okra. Appleton Farms prosciutto from Aldi. Some sort of Trader Joe’s cheese (I’m into the aged gouda at the moment). Frozen waffles (usually the Eggo Cinnamon Toast Minis). Spindrift water (loving the Cosmopolitan right now).
Favorite ranking: Smoked salmon. Imagine me as Scrooge McDuck but instead of coins I’m diving into a vault of slippery smoked salmon slices. Pure joy. I also found some real steals in that taste test!
Least favorite ranking: Canned oysters. I had such high hopes for this but it quickly became a chore. The kitchen smelled like an uncleaned aquarium.
