If you are anything like me, then you are up late most nights. If you are even more like me, then at least 20% of your brain is in snack mode at any given time, and that percentage goes up to 50 at around 11 p.m. But don’t fret, you fellow snacky adult, you. There are plenty of healthy late night snacks out there—and, yes, we recognize “healthy” is a big word in this context. Here you’ll find some low-cal, low-fat snacks, as well as some that are high in fiber and “good fats.” As always, we aren’t nutritionists—we’re professional taste testers who know what tastes good. And we know snacks, that’s for sure. Here are some of the best “healthy” late night snacks so that you can satisfy that 11 p.m. snacky surge with some nutritious and delicious options.
- Whole Foods 365 Roasted Garlic Hummus
-
What can I say about hummus that hasn’t already been said? It is savory, salty, delicious, and best of all, it’s pretty darn healthy, especially as dips go. So, whether you choose to dip veggies in it while watching reruns of SNL or dunk some pita chips in it while spacing out on your bed, you gotta go with what we thinks is one of the best hummus options on the market, the garlic hummus from Whole Foods 365. It has an amazing roasted garlic flavor and our taste testers described it as, “thick, not watery,” adding that it has a “nice balance of sesame flavor and lemon to boot.” Go get this hummus and get ready for some deliciously savory, fiber-packed snacking.

Speaking of hummus, pretzels are the perfect vehicle for a nice, thick dip. Add these pretzels to your list of healthy late night snacks, and you will’nt be disappointed, laddies. Not only are these square pretzel grids ripe for the dippin’, but they are also great on their own. These buttery pretzels are “properly salted, crunchy but not dry, and easy to eat,” according to our taste testers, and you really can’t ask for more out of a pretzel.
- Oikos Lemon Meringue
-
Looking for something on the sweeter side of the snacking spectrum in the small hours? Don’t you worry, buddy friend, this yogurt from Oikos will do the trick. Greek yogurt is one of the best healthy late night snacks—in terms of being relatively low fat and low cal, if not low sugar—and this is one of the best flavored Greek yogurts out there. Sporked managing editor Gwynedd Stuart pointed out that the “tartness of the lemon and the natural tartness of the rich, decadent yogurt are a match made in heaven.” She also mentioned that this yogurt could literally be a pie filling just on its own without any changes. So, if you are a late night pie craver, sprinkle some graham crackers over this yogurt and it will fill the pie-shaped hole in your heart.

- Nicos Green Tea Seaweed Snacks
-
Sometimes you don’t even really want food, you just want a crunchy-and-salty thing to keep your mouth occupied. Well sir, have you tried seaweed? This stuff is crinkly and crunchy and oh so savory, not to mention low fat and low cal. Plus, this particular brand and flavor is super layered and complex according to our tasters, who said that the “green tea taste is aromatic and lovely, and there is a pronounced, savory flavor too. It’s also salty and smoky.” Yes, that is a lot of different flavors in one snack, but hey, this seaweed is just cool like that. Get you a late night snacking seaweed that can do it all.
- JIF Creamy Peanut Butter
-
Here at Sporked, we love good ‘ol PB. It is filling, delicious, and tastes 20 times better heaped on a spoon at 1 a.m. That’s just science. This particular PB is great—choosy moms really did have their peanut butter game on lock, because this peanut butter won over our taste testers with its nuttiness, creamy texture, hint of sweetness, and “right amount of saltiness.” Whether you put it on a cracker, an apple slice, or just straight into your mouth, PB will always B one of the best healthy late night snacks out there (and by “healthy,” in this case we mean high in fiber and “good” fats; peanut butter is not a low-cal food).
- Trader Joe’s Everything But the Bagel Nut Duo
-
This stuff is nuts! Literally! And this mixture of nuts and Everything But the Bagel seasoning is crazy good. Some would even say it’s nuts how good this is. If nuts are among your go-to “healthy” snacks, you have to try these. Our taste testers noted how “you get garlic, onion, sea salt, and poppy and sesame seeds, but none of those flavors overpower the nuts themselves.” It’s just so balanced, it’s…nuts. So next time you need a nice new nut mix to munch on at midnight, I’d better cashew at Trader Joe’s picking up a pack of these puppies. You will nut be disappointed.
