The Best Peanut Butter Pretzels, Ranked

The best peanut butter filled pretzels are crunchy, neatly filled with fresh-tasting peanut butter, and not too dry. In fact, let’s go ahead and emphasize that last thing: The best peanut butter pretzels can’t be overly dry. And honestly, that’s more difficult to find than you would think. Let’s discuss.

Are you in a dry spell? Because I certainly was, trying a dozen brands of peanut butter pretzels and feeling all the moisture leave my mouth with every bite. That’s the (literal) sticking point when it comes to this snack, though: Even the best peanut butter pretzels can be polarizing. Some people can’t handle the way every ingredient co-mingles to stick to the roof of your mouth and deprive it of saliva. Others find them to be the perfect marriage of two relatively popular snack foods on the “healthier” side of the snack spectrum: peanut butter and lightly salted pretzels. Personally, I fall somewhere in the middle—I enjoy salty, hearty peanut butter pretzel bites with soft, fresh peanut butter. The peanut butter shouldn’t taste like it’s been sitting at the bottom of a jar in your pantry for three years. Luckily, we found five brands that hit the mark. Here are the best peanut butter pretzels, ranked.

Good & Gather Mini Peanut Butter Pretzels

Best Mini

Good & Gather Mini Peanut Butter Filled Pretzels

Packaged in small bags, Good & Gather Mini Peanut Butter Pretzels are the best peanut butter pretzel bites for on-the-go snacking. The pretzel is super crunchy (in a good way), and their mini size makes them really easy to pop and chew. The only downside: There’s only a small dollop of peanut butter in each pretzel chunk. Still, they aren’t dry, which scores major points with me. If you’re packing lunch for the kiddos, these are easy to throw right in.

Clancy’s Peanut Butter Pretzels

Best Pretzel Crunch

Clancy’s Peanut Butter Pretzels

From all the brands we tried, Clancy’s has the sturdiest pretzel, which really elevates the whole experience. The crunch and chew is much more satisfying. It lends an artisan, toasty quality to the pretzel nuggets. I think this is a huge win for the Aldi brand, if you ask me—that said, if you’re not a fan of a thicker pretzel, these might not do it for you.

Snyder’s Peanut Butter Pretzels

Best Buttery

Snyder’s Peanut Butter Pretzels

If you’re asking me for my biased opinion, Snyder’s makes the best peanut butter filled pretzels, hands down. The pretzel has a smooth, buttery quality that really goes a long way. The peanut butter itself is also slightly sweeter, moister, and softer. That said, I don’t think this is the best peanut butter pretzel for the purists out there who absolutely adore this snack. I love them, but their distinct butteriness sets them apart in a way that might not jive with everyone.

Sprouts Peanut Butter Pretzels

Runner Up

Sprouts Peanut Butter Pretzels

The self-serve nut selection at Sprouts is a religious experience. You feel like a kid in a rustic candy store… with a grown-up twist. Often overlooked, though, are the crisp peanut butter pretzels waiting to be scooped. Classic and fresh-tasting, with delectable salt crystals and homegrown feel to them, these were such a pleasant surprise among the more humdrum options we tried. That said, be warned: Sprouts also sell peanut butter pretzels in pre-packaged tubs, and those were noticeably more stale. Make sure you’re grabbing the fresh stuff. (Also, we liked their almond butter filled pretzels, too. They were slightly sweeter, but still nicely salted and crunchy.)

Kirkland Peanut Butter Pretzels

Best of the Best

Kirkland Peanut Butter Pretzels

If you have a habit of eating PB pretzel nuggets by the tub, you better finally bite the bullet and get a Costco membership, because these are the best peanut butter pretzels on the market. The nuggets are big and nicely filled to the brim (no huge gaps) with “Valencia” peanut butter—sounds fancy, right? Well it tastes pretty fancy, too. The smooth, creamy peanut butter is a notch above the rest here. Plus, the pretzel nuggets manage to stay satisfyingly moist despite their size, which is no small feat. Don’t miss out!
