BJ’s New Chicken Sandwiches Amp Up The Crispiness

I’d just like to put it out there: The chicken sandwich wars may not be completely over. Granted, the hottest period of the conflict (I use that term loosely, obviously – there really was no conflict involved at all) may be long gone, but restaurants are still figuring out how they can compete in the now-very-crowded chicken sandwich space, and this year’s seen a lot of action. We’ve had new chicken sandwiches from places like Popeyes and Chili’s, Wendy’s has revamped its spicy chicken sandwich (which hasn’t gone down well), and Chick-fil-A brought back a fan fave.

Yes, I know: Just because a restaurant’s doing something with a chicken sandwich, doesn’t mean it’s at war. But just run with me here. Anyway, BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse is the latest to drop an all-new line-up of crispy chicken sandwiches, and we’re gonna talk about it.

BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse Crispy Chicken Sandwiches

Yesterday, BJ’s announced that it’s rolling out a new selection of crispy chicken sandwiches, which it heralds as something a little different. The restaurant has three new flagship sandwiches on offer, with customization options that mean you can tweak them to your liking. The three sandwiches, which all come on a brioche bun, are:

• Korean Sweet & Spicy Chicken Sandwich: BJ’s says that this sandwich has “trending heat” – and what that means in practice is that it’s a fried chicken patty tossed in a sweet and spicy Asian glaze, topped with pickled vegetables, sesame seeds, and sriracha aioli. 
• BJ’s Classic Crispy Chicken Sandwich: You can grab this one in a classic or saucy style, and combine it with sauces like Honey BBQ, BJ’s Peppered BBQ, Hot Honey Buffalo, or Nashville Hot. Topped with coleslaw, pickles, and mayo. 
• BJ’s Original Crispy Chicken Sandwich: This one’s as close to the style that kicked off the sandwich wars in the first place, and it’s simple, but effective. Crispy fried chicken, honey mustard, lettuce, tomatoes, and dill pickles. 

Meal Deal, Anyone?

As the home of the ever-adventurous Pizookie (which got a pepperoni version a few months ago), BJ’s is making sure that its flagship item gets a look-in here. As such, you can grab these new sandwiches as part of its Pizookie Meal Deal, which you can get Mondays through Fridays. $13 will get you a BJ’s Original Crispy Chicken Sandwich and a personal Pizookie. BJ’s is also bringing back its Graham Cracker S’mores Pizookie, made with graham cracker crumbles, toasted marshmallows, and ice cream. Oh, and a triple chocolate cookie, of course.
