Oh captain, my captain. We’re here to celebrate the return of a cereal that’s been gone from our shelves for nine long years. Yes, Cap’n Crunch Orange Creampop Crunch is back after first gracing our grocery stores in 2016. If you don’t remember 2016, it was when America had just started showing visible signs of decay (and when I became an adult, which might be related). What a simpler time.

Something unique happened with the prep for this article: I forgot to review the cereal. Seriously. I poured an entire bowl, ate it happily, and only as I was slurping the last of the cereal milk did I realize I forgot to take any tasting notes. So I had to pour a second bowl to actually do my job. That’s certainly a positive note. At no point did eating this cereal feel like a task. Since I’ve actually written down my thoughts now, let’s find out if it deserved the attention it got from all those funny people who sign petitions about cereal.

Returning Cap’n Crunch!

Cap’n Crunch Orange Creampop Crunch

Pros: This definitely feels like an orange cream pop—as best as that can be replicated in cereal form. I could chalk part of that up to the extra creamy oat milk I used in place of the best milk (2%, accept no substitutes), but I’m going to attempt to review this in the most milk-agnostic way possible. We all live different lives. I’m not usually a dry cereal cruncher, but I had a few raw handfuls of this newly returned Cap’n Crunch flavor and enjoyed it. The captain is onto something.

Cons: This is not a cereal you can let sit for even a few minutes; you gotta eat this one quickly. I am normally a “let it soak” cereal killer, but this flavor combination only works with cold-ass milk.

Sporks

Are there any other Cap’n Crunch flavors that could see a return like this?

Oh, so many. The good captain has also set sail with Strawberry Shortcake Crunch, Sprinkled Donut Crunch, Blueberry Pancake Crunch, and Chocolatey Berry Crunch. Hell, there was even an AirHeads candy-inspired Cap’n Crunch cereal—and that one can stay in the watery grave, frankly.
