I Tried New Celsius Electric Vibe—and It Didn’t Have Me Buzzing

It’s summertime, so I have two items on my to-do list: I need to unpack my jorts, and I need to review every limited-edition summer energy drink I can possibly find. Luckily for me, the good people at Celsius sent over a few cans of their new Electric Vibe energy drink; let’s find out whether this Electric Vibe lights a spark or just shorts out.

Celsius Electric Vibe Review

New Celsius Flavor!

Pros: This drink is described as a “Sparkling Tropical Freeze” and unlike some other Celsius flavors I’ve reviewed, I can genuinely see what they’re going for here. There are multiple fruit notes pleasantly layered throughout this drink. While I wouldn’t immediately classify pineapple, orange, cherry, and grape as tropical, I would say they’re a solid bunch for a fruit punch.

Cons: I’m a big fan of most tropical drinks, but this missed the mark for me–not too surprising, considering Celsius’ attempt at a Piña Colada was also a major miss in my book. The pineapple-orange-cherry-grape I’m supposed to be tasting here is coming off aggressively chemical. (I also got a surprising amount of banana flavoring out of this non-banana drink.) I’m no stranger to artificial flavors, but this tastes like a laboratory experiment. Maybe Celsius just isn’t the brand for me…

Do you ever like Celsius energy drinks?

Celsius Electric Vibe isn’t the first drink from the brand that I ended up on the wrong side of. Judging by some passionate direct messages I’ve gotten over on Instagram, I have a reputation for disliking Celsius as a whole.

Folks, there’s a touch of a truth to that: I’ve rated some of Celsius’ recent entries into the energy drink canon as low as a 2.5–certainly the lowest rating I’ve given to a major energy drink brand’s release that I can recall. What the devoted (and aggressive) Celsius fans in my DMs fail to remember is that I enjoyed Celsius Spritz Vibe and absolutely loved Celsius Fizz-Free Pink Lemonade! Seriously, if Celsius would just stop messing with this carbonation nonsense, they’d be unbeatable in their niche. Case in point, I definitely enjoyed Celsius Electric Vibe more after it went flat.
