Back in 1982, Coca-Cola offered the first samples of Cherry Coke to attendees of the World’s Fair held in Knoxville, Tennessee. This world-first official flavor variant of Coca-Cola later hit shelves in 1985, where it has stood as a popular alternative to the original formula ever since. Now, over 40 years later, we’re getting a brand-new variant on that variant. Say hello to Coca-Cola Cherry Float.
How is Coca-Cola Cherry Float different from Coca-Cola Cherry Vanilla?
Per Coca-Cola, this new cola is “a nostalgic twist on cherry flavor with a smooth, creamy vanilla profile.” While that certainly sounds like it could apply very well to the multiple Cherry Vanilla variants we’ve enjoyed for the last twenty years, this is a brand-new formula. I was lucky enough to sample this new soda last year at a convenience store expo; as a big fan of Cherry Vanilla Coke in all its forms, I can confirm Cherry Float has a noticeably different taste. (Coca-Cola is sending over a few early cans soon; stay tuned for my detailed review.)
When and where can I get Coca-Cola Cherry Float?
Starting this month, Coca-Cola Cherry Float will hit shelves nationwide (and in Canada, you lucky Canucks) in both full and Zero Sugar. Both versions will be available in 12oz can 12-packs and 20oz bottles. And all it took was a different Coca-Cola variant being discontinued forever…
What is getting discontinued to make room for Coca-Cola Cherry Float?
“Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost.” Despite this worldly quote coming from an anime, it really does apply to the world of soda distribution. There’s only so much space on store shelves; products have to go away for new ones to appear. (Just ask Monster Energy.)
This month, we’ll be saying goodbye to Coca-Cola Orange Cream. Per my sources, we can expect Cherry Float to be discontinued around this time in 2027 to make room for a new 12-month limited-edition flavor. This feels like a natural evolution from my beloved Coca-Cola Creations line. Brand new flavors in the Creations line would hit stores multiple times a year in bottles, slim cans, mini cans, Slurpees, and more—but never consistently. This new year-round strategy means Coke is always offering a widely appealing variant of Coke in every popular format. They’re #1 for a reason, y’all.
