Costco’s New Cake Is Perfect For Your Morning Break

To say that Costco’s bakery items are hit and miss is to state the obvious – but we’re gonna say it anyway! They ARE hit and miss, and while they usually look good and scratch the itch in our brain that’s crying out for new stuff that sounds tasty, they don’t always deliver on the flavor front (see its recent buttermilk biscuits for proof of this). Every now and again, though, it pulls a blinder: Back in February, its new cookie bar cake hit the spot for us, despite it costing an arm and a leg, and its cinnamon croissants were a 10/10.

We now have a new Costco bakery item that could see similar success – and if you’ve ever wanted to combine your mid-morning treats into one bite, this one’s for you. 

Costco’s Cherry Almond Coffee Cake

Last week, @costcohotfinds dropped the delightful news that Costco now has a Cherry Almond Coffee Cake in its bakery section, and it looks good. Ditch the cup of coffee alongside your slice of cake, and just go all-in with this one, guys! Okay, have the coffee too. Anyway: This cake has a tart cherry filling and an almond streusel topping, and it’s finished with donut sugar. It comes in at $11.99 per cake (although prices may vary by location), which, as far as Costco cakes go, is relatively reasonable. 

As for how it tastes – it’s so far, so good. @costcohotfinds said that the cake was “soft, moist, and not overly sweet,” while over on Facebook, a comment in Discovering Costco’s post about the cake said, “It is incredible!” Unlike other coffee cakes, which can be pretty dense, Costco’s Cherry Almond Coffee Cake has a nice tenderness to it, with a pleasingly loose crumb and a good amount of cherry filling. The one downside seems to be the crumb topping, which some customers aren’t that enthusiastic about (it did a similar thing with its returning Strawberry Streusel Cheesecake, which came out a few months ago. Maybe it had some crumb left over). Guess you can’t win them all. 

Get It While It’s Hot!

Costco’s Cherry Almond Coffee Cake is available now, but don’t sleep on this one. It has a whiff of being a limited-time item (I’m willing to be proved wrong on this one), and one that’s suited to the incoming change from summer to fall. My suspicion is it’ll be gone in a couple of months, if not before then – so run. Run! Run, I say!
